Social Profile:

Tony’s Coal Fired Pizza and Slice House pays homage to two very different styles of pizza, New York and New Haven, as well as traditional Chicago Italian Beef sandwiches. One of the only pizzerias of its kind on the West Coast, customers can find authentic New Haven and Connecticut style pizza cooked in a genuine 1000-degree coal fired oven. Upon the first taste and smell you will find why Tony’s Coal Fired Pizza is one of the best in the world. A neighbor to Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, the Slice House is just one place where you can find great Coal Fired and New Haven Pizza and traditional Chicago Italian Beef and Chicken Parm sandwiches.

Busy counter-service joint offering slices & whole pies of its East Coast-style pizza to take away.

We just got slices because the wait time was 2 hours for the main restaurant. The margarita was phenomenal, the sauce was great, and the crust was crunchy. Definitely lived up to the hype.

First, a crucial tip: there are two Tony’s spots right next to each other. Tony’s Pizza Napoletana is the full sit-down restaurant, while this one, the Slice House, is their casual, takeout-focused spot.
It’s important to know that the Slice House is primarily for grab-and-go. They have very limited seating-just a few tables and no servers-so it’s best to plan on taking your pizza with you.
Now for the pizza itself: it was fantastic. They serve NY-style pizza, which was a really welcome change from other styles in the SF area, especially because I’m from the east coast. For a quick, delicious, and classic slice without the fuss of a sit-down meal, this place is an excellent choice. I really liked it.

Food was delicious! Best Calzone I’ve had. But the system was extremely slow, they were quick to take our order, despite the long line. But there was just one single person getting every order ready for pick up, from boxing up the goods to walking them to the window and it made the whole thing extremely slow :(. It appeared he didn’t prioritize ready made items and went order by order, waiting for a whole pie to cook and then handing it, before boxing up the next item that were things already ready for boxing up. Which meant we waited an unnecessary amount of time for something that I could see just warming up on the counter.

Loved the food, but the system could work a bit more efficiently:)

Not a slice house. A window wherein a factory for Doordash and Uber Eats and whichever other riffraff decides to mess up sidewalk traffic operates. The pizza’s good, but don’t you DARE think you’re walking in here for a quick slice. You, poor soul, will be waiting on a crowded sidewalk for 55 minutes for your singular slice of $9 Margherita.

Had the California Veggie slice and Webb’s Double Sausage at Tonys Coal Fired Pizza. The veggie slice stood out with its fresh toppings and great flavor. Always a lively and packed spot that makes for a fun bite while in North Beach.

While having a slice of Pepperoni, I thought I could faintly hear the famous “La donna è mobile” from Verdi’s opera Rigoletto playing in the background

La donna è mobile
Qual piuma al vento
Muta d’accento
E di pensiero

My first time at Tony’s and it was an experience I’ll never forget.

A perfect crust – chewy with a nice crunch. Small peperoni’s that had the right amount of kick to them. A nice complex combination of savory and salty, with a nice chew.

The sauce, I can tell goes back generations of nonna’s.

Matt says: take the Muni 8 from Montgomery Street station. It’s a short walk for a slice of heaven.

This establishment is part of the Tony’s Restaurant next door, but here is faster service just for take out pizza slices. We purchased 2 plain cheese ($6 each) and a 4 cheese pizza slice ($7.25 each). It was very busy even on a Sunday evening, but the line went very fast. Our food was ready in about 5-7 minutes. The pizza looked good and were extra large, but was dry and did not have much tomato pizza sauce. I believe since the slices are reheated the sauce dries out and thus would recommend getting a side of sauce or buying a whole pie from the original Tony’s next door.

I expected that every item on the menu at this place would be great because of the ratings and the word of mouth. I ordered the Don Giovani pizza and it was the worst ever. I basically waited 30min, paid $40 for a pizza that has the sauce on top of the cheese and not under the cheese. Ridiculous. And the menu says its supposed to have Vodka cream sauce and white onions. I got home to find out it’s just an upside down pizza. This place is not worth the hype. Additionally, it was hard enough trying to figure out where the takeout was because there are 3 doors.

I ordered a whole pizza from the takeout spot and I waited for about 20 mins before returning for the order. It appeared the order didn’t come out so I was waiting about 15 mins before asking one of the workers if the pizza was ready. They just looked at the receipt and left. Another 15 mins went by so I asked a different worker and they didn’t do much except look at the receipt number again and waved me off. Again more orders came out and still no pizza so I asked again if they could check on the pizza but they just shouted the number to the back and no response. So I waited about 1.5 hours in total and I asked the cashier about the pizza and she found it sitting on the top of rack that no one had bothered to check before. No sorry. Just “Oh sometimes the pizzas are left around when someone doesn’t come in when the pizza is called.” Basically saying I should’ve been standing in the rain waiting for the pizza. It’s not my fault no one bothered to go looking for the pizza I paid for. Overall horrible service. Don’t order a new pizza for togo just the ready made slices.

Feeling fortunate that I work just around the block from Tony’s. I love the Big Kahuna! Gotta try the meatball sub soon! California veggie slice is probably my most frequently ordered slice.
