Nothing on their menu seemed appetizing to me. Literally nothing. My mom ordered a whole rack of ribs and I got the lunch special which was about a third of the rack of ribs (although I’m sure they claim it to be a half rack). My mom got the coleslaw and baked potato and I think I had mashed potatoes and green beans or something like that. If I sound unsure, this is why…
I wasn’t impressed. There was about nothing special about the ribs or their sides. The one good thing I can say about them was that the meat came off the bones quite easily and there were no burnt parts. My mom thoroughly enjoyed them though. She ate the whole rack!
I definitely won’t be back on my own. Of course, if that’s where my mom wants to go again next year then that is where I will take her though.
Location: Aiea Heights
Restaurant debaters: Me & Beau
Me: “Baaaabe! I’m starving!”
Beau: “OK baby- where do you wanna go?”
Me: “I don’t know… I don’t wanna drive… far”
Beau: “Town is not far, babe!”
Me: “I don’t want to park!”
Beau: “True… Go Yelp something nearby, baby.”
Me: “There’s NOTHING in Aiea! There’s nothing clo… (*Yelp search for restaurants nearby*)… I don’t want anything in Aiea… it’s so ghetto!!” (*yelp search continues*)…
Beau: “You live in Aiea, babe.”
Me: *sigh* “Tony Roma’s…? Do you like that idea?”
Beau: “Oooooh! Something new! Yeah, let’s try it!”
And so we did. We got in the car, drove down the hill and were fortunate enough that at 5:30pm on a Sunday we were able to find parking immediately amongst several open stalls. ***Note: This is by NO MEANS a common event. Do not EVER anticipate this to happen. You will be severely disappointed.
Were I to base my review solely on parking availability and speed of pre-seating service, I would give it a 1 star. Fortunately for Tony, I like food…
Beau and I were surprised at how many dishes looked and sounded incredible. *EVERYTHING* was floating our boats… So much that we ended up not ordering an entree! We stuck with the trio sampler that consisted of the onion loaf, chicken tenders and potato skins, the steak flatbread, cheesecake and brownie ala mode with raspberry sauce. Each item was great! We were stuffed and couldn’t finish the chicken tenders or the onion loaf.
((For my fellow parking-phobic peeps, you can order delivery via 941-DINE))
The Breakdown…
-House bread: Soft inside, crispy outside w/whipped butter… mmmmmmm!!
-Chicken tenders: Extra crispy coating, moist chicken
-Potato Skins: Perfect amount of every topping!! Ask for sour cream instead of ranch if that’s your thing!
-Onion Loaf: delicious battered onion but a little difficult to pull apart… a bit overly oily but still awesome with the barbecue dip.
-Angus steak Flatbread: crispy, thin flatbread w/ blue cheese and steak… I’m picky about my meat and i thought the quality of the cubes felt a bit LOT like scraps they cut off of the steaks they used for entrees.. but the flavor was good.
-Cheesecake w/strawberries: light, rich- just as you’d expect… but fresher…
-Brownie w/raspberry: TDF… to die for. Yes, I’m serious.
That was so delicious that I ordered takeout/delivery from 941-DINE ($8.99 delivery charge on top of your check plus tip).
At which time I ordered the following…
-Chicken Spinach Stack: light, flavorful w/creamed spinach and panko
-Bacon mac’n’cheese: INCREDIBLE!! CHEESY, BACONY, CRISPY ON TOP!! PERFECTION!!!!!
-Mashed Red potatoes: good… a little dry… proc better w/gravy
-Roasted veggies: lame…
-Kickin’Shrimp: good… a little gummy but beau really liked it.
The service, once you are seated, is great. Not much of a view of you do happen to get a window seat, but the waiters and waitresses are nice and courteous. Food Is Pretty good overall. It is a bit narrow as restaurant space goes… feels very loud inside.
Conclusion: I’ll probably stick with delivery for convenience… It was difficult for me to decide how many stars it deserved based on all aspects of my experiences… So, I had to average it all out based on these criteria…
-PARKING: 1 star
-Pre-seat wait: 3 stars
-Staff: 5 stars
-Food: 4 stars
-Price: 3 stars
