Reviews
I stopped by Tony Boloney’s at UPSIDE today for lunch after hearing a lot of hype about their Jersey‑style cheesesteaks, and I decided to try the Ducktown Melt ($17.95). The sandwich includes shaved ribeye, smoked bacon, garlic aioli, Cooper Sharp, smoked house white wiz, and fresh mozzarella on garlic bread — so it sounded promising.
Unfortunately, the execution really missed the mark. The sandwich was extremely oily and messy to eat, to the point where it took away from any enjoyment. The garlic aioli completely overpowered the other flavors, and I could barely taste the mozzarella, which was disappointing since it’s one of the main components.
For a place known for bold, creative sandwiches, I was expecting much better quality and balance. I genuinely hope this location continues to improve, because I was excited to see a well‑known Jersey spot come to the Roslyn/Arlington area. For now, though, this experience fell short of expectations.
I also had the Caesar salad, and it was a good addition to the meal.
The service was great too!
If you’re looking for bold flavors and food that truly hits the spot, Tony Baloney’s does not disappoint. I’ll definitely be back!
Tonight I embarked on a new adventure to a local food hall, but with a twist, a true taste of home straight from New Jersey. Fast forward and here we are at Tony Boloney’s now in Rosslyn with the one and only Mike, and he has done it again. Bringing his world-renowned pizza to the DMV, this Jersey boy couldn’t be more thrilled.
I was lucky enough to join Mike at his pre-opening for a hands-on pizza-making class alongside the amazing Chef Fernando. Also on site was Natalie Flynn from Upside on Moore, who leads their creative content and truly helped elevate both Mike and the shop’s presence.
And let’s talk about the food, because it was nothing short of amazing. Every bite delivered that unmistakable New Jersey flavor and quality, from the crust to the toppings. Mike has truly succeeded in bringing a genuine taste of NJ to the DMV, and it shows in every detail.
Mike was kind, incredibly hands-on, and deeply knowledgeable about the science behind pizza. Learning from him was an experience in itself, but his world traveler perspective and insight are truly unparalleled. This place gets a 10 out of 5 in my book, and I cannot wait to be back.
