This place is very welcoming. The food is delicious and plentiful. The combo plate comes with a side of sweet and sour chicken or pork. The price is very fair for the amount of food.

I have not been to the Happy Buddha in over 20 years and since then it seems like the decor the same day for it was when I was in 1980 anyway I wonder why it was going to be really good to me in my head but they don’t have the same atmos or appetizers, The waitress for friendly but almost too pushy and wanted us to have what she wanted to give to us and I was not trying to get a lot of extra little plates and bowls and to go and she brought a lot of that before we even which was nice but not interested in getting it all at once while I’m trying to just enjoy my food. And the food that’s what the main thing was I ordered the general tso’s chicken and my husband order the beef and broccoli and the rice was okay it had real shrimp in it and it had egg in it and it tasted decent and he liked the egg rolls but other than that we ordered cheese puffs or cheese rangoon and they were fresh other than that the food for my general tsos chicken had no spicy she said I could add it since I asked if it was real spicy. The beef and broccoli was bland but the chicken on the general toes was cooked so it had the lights off and tasted like Westershire sauce and soy sauce.
All in all for $40 plus it wasn’t happy, I wasn’t satisfied with the food taste.
And the atmosphere which is real plain nothing really on the walls and several rooms that were empty except for one or two people that were eating there they would probably 10 people in the whole restaurant

Good food and LOTS of it, the combination meals are huge with your entree, rice, egg roll, and sweet & sour chicken all for $15.50. Service was fast and very attentive.

I grew up in Galveston and was gone for a few years. I always enjoyed Buddha growing up and always looked forward to visiting every time I’m in town. MY, HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED. Not only was the food bland and tasteless, it looked so weird, there was a server at the register that was arguing with the manager about a to go order and we were just waiting to be seated.. it was 2pm and the restaurant was empty.. so we asked what time did they close.. this server rolled her eyes, said 8.. rolled her eyes again and walked off.. WTH!! I almost walked out with my entire family!!! Then we got this nasty food.. after all these years.. I think I won’t be returning to Buddha.. they obviously have lost their edge

Stopped for takeout. Food arrived pretty quickly and packaged well. There was a sign telling people to check their order before they left, I can see why since my egg drop soup was left out and I had to ask for it, so it makes me wonder if it happens often. The egg drop soup was the saltiest soup of any kind I have ever had in my life, I think. I ate less than half of it and threw the rest away, I could almost feel my blood pressure blowing up. The pork entree was a little blah, contained huge chunks of vegetables and too much sauce. They didn’t even throw in hot mustard for the egg rolls. Oh, kinda weird but I ordered lunch takeout, and the lunch specials come with soup. But the takeout version, for the same price, does not include soup. However, it isn’t a packaging issue because you can pay extra and purchase the soup that should have but couldn’t come with the meal. Will probably not be back.

I’ve been coming here for decades & while it’s consistently ‘ok’ it has never been my first choice. Knowing what to expect, we decided to eat there the other night & they have definitely upped their game. Enough so that I’m looking forward to the next time we go. Their ‘chili oil’ while being interesting & a great flavor never had any kick to it at all. It does now! Their egg rolls while being on the huge side always seemed soggy & greasy. Not anymore. I don’t think I have ever enjoyed Happy Buddha as much as I did the other night. Trust me when I say we will not wait 6 or 7 months to return.
PS: went last night! Off the chain!!

Decent food clean restaurant overall variation of servers never asked if we needed more tea about four times. The restaurant it self needs up dating. Looks out dated and dingy. Few odd things as decor. German architecture and a Scottish paintIng in middle of a Chinese restaurant. Lol

I guess my hopes that the not so great recent reviews would skip me. What was I thinking. I got the chicken & broccoli combo. The fried rice was void of everything except rice. Most everything had a metallic taste to it. I smothered the rice and entree in duck sauce just to consume it. Ugh. I was hungry. Now I’m just disappointed. I haven’t been burned by a meal in a while. Lesson learned, believe the reviews.

Just gross! I have been twice for lunch the first time was fine the second time was beyond awful! I think the soup was spoiled and the chicken for the sweet and sour chicken had a weird texture like it wasn’t cooked through. The rice is awful I don’t want pork in my rice

I’ve had general toes chicken and several states this is the first one that hasn’t been fried spicy or have any broccoli added to it. It’s just a bunch of meat thrown in a container with rice on the side. The only normal thing about it was the rice it was white and it taste like it was supposed to. I wouldn’t recommend general tso from this facility. Plus, they don’t switch out fried rice for white rice it’s a dollar more and that’s what it costs for white rice I believe so it doesn’t make any sense that they can’t make a slight adjustment. A waste of money.
