The chocolate and passion fruit cake was really good and so was the croissant. The coconut thing was quite dry as was the other thing we got. They make good bread and we bought some for the following day.
Whilst they sell trinkets there, they looked quite expensive and we elected to just share some nice treats before we got back on our way.
The staff are quite friendly and there is free wifi too.
Hope to return someday.
For the bakery, the cheese cakes sitting out on the counter looked a bit overcooked or at least more brown spots than I am used to.
The store had a variety of Costa Rican chocolate and other foods/gifts, and we ended up spending more in chocolate bars for gifts than we did on our two lunches.
I think it is really great place to support the locals and get a good lunch or dinner with a German flair since the menu looked extensive, but I would not stop here just to get bakery goods.
In this particular instance I stopped in for coffee and a pastry. Coffee was awful and over priced. They gave me half a cup for $3 and the taste was terrible. I had 2 sips and threw it out. The picture I posted will show you exactly the level I got. I also purchased a cinnamon roll, but it did not taste like cinnamon plus it had some yellow jelly. Couldn’t tell what the jelly was. Too sweet and definitely not cinnamon. They have plenty of pastry options. Too heavy for my taste. I’m sure some are great, just not my experience. Croissants are okay.
I do not like to post negative reviews, and I’m happy to change it once they make the necessary changes. I mean let’s be real. Coffee is not hard to make plus we are in Costa Rica. How can you go bad with coffee in this country?
Restaurant side has plenty of tables outside and cute decor. I can’t remember what I ate here during Oktoberfest, but I will say if I’m impressed I’ll usually post it. Again, not the case. Restrooms are clean. Parking is easy. Staff is friendly.
I will likely never go back, unless someone tells me they’ve changed things.
We stumbled upon this bakery by chance and were so glad we did. Traveling with a German, I had high hopes—and they were exceeded. The bread, the pretzel, the apple strudel… all delicious and fully approved by my travel companion. A fun and tasty detour on our way to our next destination. Highly recommend if you’re craving something hearty and authentic!
More a tourist trap.
Yes. They serve some german food, but that’s it. We had smoothies they were ok, and some people sitting next to me told me the food is also OK. It has some German pastries, but not really authentic as they don’t look fresh, some even burnt, and the presentation doesn’t look very healthy. Cleanliness can be improved.
Staff is polite, but nothing more. Proactivity could be better, don’t look very motivated. But of course, in all fairness, I don’t know the reason. They look like nice people.
The outdoor seating is nice with some views, but 2 tables were dirty and it could do with a bit more upkeep.
Overall, not a bad spot to stop for a drink when on the road like we did. But that’s just about it
Unfortunate, because it has potential!
Update:
And BTW… the place if for sale, date of writing and visit is 2025-04-28
