From the outside, Tom’s Cabin looks like it might be a gamble—but it absolutely pays off. The food was delicious, the portions were hearty, and the prices were very affordable for how much you get. Service was warm and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Proof that some of the best meals come from the most unassuming places. I’d definitely come back!

Recently moved to Caldwell from the south. In conversations about fried fish, i came across a few people that said “Toms Cabin has good fish & chips”. On a Saturday i rode to Emmett to see what it was about at lunch. When i pulled up i thought “hole in the walls are normally delicious, please let this be it.” I sat at the counter and the waitress was very nice. I ordered the fish & chips and chatted with another patron at the bar”. The waitress brought my food with an apology for the wait, saying “the food normally comes out quicker”. It came with 3 pieces of a fried cod maybe. I ate 1 piece and left the rest at the restaurant. Very different then the south. Price was reasonable. All Saturday afternoon/evening i wasn’t feeling well and it got worse as THE DAYS went by. After lunch i went shopping in Emmett and i felt the food was not settling on my stomach, getting sicker & sicker. Without doubt i had contacted Salmonella. Wednesday morning i had finally felt like i was going to survive. Shame on y’all for serving bad food/seafood and thankfully i only ate 1 piece bc i would have ended up in the hospital if i had eaten all 3 pieces. NEVER will I walk in there again.

I was visiting my parents and they wanted to take me here because they had enjoyed it before. We sat down a little before 5pm and ordered our food fairly quickly. We didn’t receive our food until almost 6pm.

Apparently the French toast for my 2 year old was forgotten and had just been put on the grill when they finally started bringing out our food. The other kids really enjoyed their pancakes. My steak was ordered medium rare but was most definitely well-done and dry. The fried shrimp were overcooked and too crunchy to eat, except the shrimp inside, and all the food was lukewarm. My mom ordered the French dip without cheese or onions but came to the table with onions. My dad ordered the Wimpy burger which he couldn’t even eat because it was so overcooked.

They both insist that this place is usually better. The waitress was nice and seemed stretched thin. I didn’t see another waitress working tables, so she may have been the only one. She offered to do something to make it better, but as it had already taken so long to get our food, we declined as we had already eaten what we could. I would give them another chance as what I could eat was decent. Maybe it was just an off night or new staff??

This Restaurant is located a couple of miles West of Emmett. All the people we met that worked there are friendly and cheerful. It’s not fancy but feels “homey”. The waitress (said to call her “Slim”) that usually serves us, always greets us warmly and knows our ordering habits/items. We have been here quite a few times because of the fore mentioned items and is the only place we have found in the area that serves Breakfast all day. ( Our schedule is ever changing and erratic so hard to meet the normal Breakfast hours). We have eaten Breakfast and Lunch but yet to have dinner here. The food is very good and the portions are big so we never leave hungry. All in all, well worth the drive.

I have been going to Tom’s Cabin since I was a young girl. The older I get, the visits are few and far between. But, it is still a favorite.
The atmosphere is good and the decor is country. It is very relaxed and “homey”.
The food is fantastic, homemade goodness! My Mom uses Tom’s Cabin for catering events because the food is so good!
The owner, Ms. Lillie is one of the best!
They also have GREAT coffee!

The service – it was an “off” day and the service isn’t normally- less than desirable. They were busy, however, in the service industry you have to adjust and handle the load.
Rule #1- You don’t share your frustrations regarding customers, with other customers.

Rule #2- You don’t make customers feel like it’s a “chore” to help them. Without customers, you don’t get a paycheck.

Rule #3- Service is everything!

I actually felt bad for one of the younger gals, who came over, and apologized to us for the older gals demeanor. She said “she gets like this when it’s busy”. There were several times the older-seasoned waitress snapped at the younger gals and customers.

We love visiting Tom’s Cabin. We will go again and again. Maybe just not when it’s busy. 🙂

This place 100% reminds me of my childhood in small town Idaho. Small town people running the show,
friendly, efficient, clean, food is def like what your grandma makes.
This stop was the PERFECT end to a day on the water. Would love to stop again and have breakfast. Strong work!

Stopped to grab breakfast on our way home. My veggie scramble was all one piece I could pick up with my fork with toasted cheese. Biscuit was huge and tasted good. Bacon was overcooked but we like it that way. Food wasn’t terrible but not good enough to come back. Waitress was friendly and food came out in a timely manner.

Drove past here many times over the last couple of years, finally had the opportunity to stop in for breakfast. Glad we did. This place is a real gem (in Gem county)…. Super friendly staff, excellent food and as others have commented, the food portions are enormous ! Biggest chicken fried steak I have ever seen. Took up most of the large plate. lots of parking behind the restaurant, about 15 or so tables, very nice atmosphere. Would highly recommend and will most certainly return.

Atmosphere is awesome and the service is top notch, food presentation is what you would expect from a Ma and Pa restaurant, tastes as good as it came out of Grandma’s Kitchen (thank you)
