Very busy place for a nondescript place. It has a following. You walk up and order at the counter. The service was friendly and fast. I was really impressed with the onion rings. Most have too much breading and are over cooked. These were perfect! The burger was fine, but a little dry. Might have been the bun. They have a big selection, so I will try something new next time.

I went to Tom’s Burgers during the lunch rush on a friday afternoon. I purchased a fish sandwich and a cheeseburger with a small drink. The food quality was astounding. The burger was exceptional and the quality was vastly superior to that of a regular fast food burger. As for the fish sandwich, that was the best fish sandwich I have ever had in my entire life. The fish was seasoned and moist, with a very fresh and flaky texture, and was served piping hot. The food wasn’t even the best part, the service really was what did it to me. The ENTIRE staff is both friendly and very attentive and I barely had to wait for my food to be served fresh and hot. This was my first time coming to Tom’s Burgers and will definitely not be my last. An A1 burger spot with great hot food, incredible hospitality and service, and a classic old-school environment.

This is your classic American “hole in the wall” dive with great food and super friendly staff. This place opened the year I was born (1991) and has been a local Waco gem ever since. The menu offers classic American faire like burgers, fries, and shakes, but also has chicken-fried steaks, patty melts, and grilled cheese. If you dine-in, it’s all served in a classic diner basket. The food is just what you would expect: casual, down-to-earth, and made to order. Everything tasted great.

The place itself is dated, but I feel like that’s part of the charm. You get nostalgic just walking in. You’re transported back into a time when diners and dives reigned supreme over the corporate, cookie-cutter restaurants that all look the same. Tom’s is wholly individual and 100% local, giving it a homey feeling. Updating it just for the sake of it, as some recent reviewers have suggested, would destroy that.

The staff are quick, efficient, and very friendly. They treated everyone kindly and took extra time with individuals who seemed to be regulars, showing that they have probably been with the restaurant for a while and take the time to get to know their regulars-which speaks volumes.

If you’re new to Waco-or have lived here for years and just never tried this place-I highly recommend giving it a go. I went during a weekday lunch. They stayed pretty steady, but I didn’t have to wait for a table to open up. Parking lot is a bit tight. I would suggest parking next door in the Austin Driving School/CPL parking lot.

Typical burger joint with burgers cooked fresh off the grill. Somewhat available seating and pretty clean dining room (4/5 for atmosphere). The double cheeseburger was pretty big, but the meat could’ve used a little more flavor. The chocolate chip cookies were good (4/5 for food quality, portion, and taste). The staff was friendly and the food was prepared fast (5/5 for service). It was around lunchtime during the week when I ate there, so even though there was no line when I got there, it started to get busy as I was leaving.

Absolutely underwhelming. I had the worst service at lunch today. I ordered and waited patiently for over 30 minutes for my burger. Young lady behind the counter didn’t put my name in. They didn’t offer to do anything about it after I finally asked and I got my burger about ten minutes after that…. I wanted to like this place since I’m new to Waco. But I’ll never be returning. Place isn’t clean. Tables were barely wiped down. Bathroom is gross. There’s no sense of urgency in the kitchen to get food out quickly. They move at a snails pace. Cooks not wearing hair nets and back door that you can see from the kitchen window is very dirty…. I mean these people can’t even replace the old ceiling tiles that are gross and discolored and about to fall apart….

Reminds me of my small town upbringing. The bacon cheeseburger was absolutely perfect and the onion rings were on point!! Service was friendly and exceptional!

I was visiting Waco, TX, came across this gem of a burger joint and decided to jump right in. It was close to opening and there were already quite a few hungry patrons. They have a decent sized menu, offering much of the traditional burger-joint fare. I kept it classic and ordered a double cheeseburger and tater tots. The burger was cooked perfectly down to the gooey cheese and toasted bun! The vegetables were fresh and tasty. The tater tots were extremely crispy from the first to the last! If everything else on Tom’s menu is as good as the combo I had, then this place is fire! Additionally, everyone who works here is friendly and the place is very clean. I would recommend and will make this a must-stop when I am back in Waco.

Updated Review: This is still one of the best old school local burgers I’ve had. The whole experience took me back to my childhood hood. The cashier is always upbeat and welcoming. The food comes out fairly quick and hot. The only downside was swiping at the flies trying to land on my food.

Great burger and fries! The service is amazing as well! It’s worth the stop if you are traveling through Waco. It does get busy, but that’s because it’s so good!

Yesterday was my first time going and it just around the corner of the hospital. The bacon cheeseburger was great, Tator was crispy wish I had more, onion rings were good. I fall in love with the cookies. They made me laugh and feel welcome. When I have more time and back in Waco. I will bring my family here.

We live out of town but had been to Providence Hospital nearby. Went in for lunch and had a great experience. The quality of the burgers is TOP NOTCH! The service is outstanding. The atmosphere was great. We had the Swiss Mushroom burgers and Cajun fries. To say they were great is an understatement. Do yourself a favor and go to Tom’s Burgers. You will not be disappointed. Parking lot is small and during lunch hour rush you will not get front door parking.
