Okay folks I got to talk to you more about Tom’s BBQ. I don’t have pictures cuz I ate it so fast but I just had the sliced brisket sandwich on a toasted bun with house coleslaw. They’re wonderful hot barbecue sauce, a side of me, Daniel, mac and cheese and cooled it off with some of their delicious potato salad and let me break this down for you
First of all, the brisket that was on this potato bun, the bun was soft, warm, slightly toasted. It was topped off with just the right amount of coleslaw that had the sweetest yet hint of spiciness to it. That just simply highlighted the barbecue brisket which was not only savory but delicious. Not too salty just the right amount of sweet. Just the right amount of bite the right amount of fat content versus meat and I added that wonderful hot sauce. Not too overpowering, but strict barbecue flavor with just enough cake to let you know that you’re alive right? But if that wasn’t enough folks when I got to the potato salad, potato salad was cool. Tangy Sweet took me to every single backyard barbecue I ever went to in my entire 60 years of being alive and then I swallowed that beautiful and wonderful jalapeno mac and cheese creamy cheesy. I can’t imagine how to get it. That’s smooth and creamy but I know the lady’s back there make it by themselves. They make everything right there on the spot folks. I mean a bit of Chicago right there in your backyard. Please come see the folks at Tom’s BBQ. Bring your family. Bring your friends. This is not hype. This is flavor and I’m excited to know these folks.
Billie was so accommodating and polite and the food was out FAST without sacrificing quality.
Coleslaw so good my 2 y/o ate it
If you’re in the area STOP IN
There was an older gentleman at the register. Not the friendliest. I came in the 6 o’clock hour. I walked in and began looking at what I know now is the lunch menu. He directed me to the main menu. I smiled and stated how it was my first time. He retorted by advising how long Tom’s been in business and possibly at that location. Not sure if he took offense that I (a non-Arizona native) have never been. I knew then, that perhaps I wouldn’t be back.
My order: 3 meat combo w/ red beans and rice and green beans, peach cobbler, and a canned peach tea. When I ordered the peach cobbler, I was directed to grab a decent size syrofoam container out of the cooler. He advised that I take it home and warm it up. I advised that that was the plan as I had butter pecan ice cream waiting. I noticed that the he added a small container of crumbles. I asked if that was supposed to be the crust. I then asked if the “peach cobbler” was just the peaches. There was a woman who poked her head out and said yes and asked if I wanted her to warm it up. I declined. The gentleman insisted that it was peach cobbler adding that,”it’s not your grannie [or grandmothers], but it’s peach cobbler”. I picked up the container to open it. The gentlemen went to grab it from my hand exclaiming that I had to pay for it first. I advised that I would pay for it even if that means I would have to throw it in the trash. Right then, I knew that today’s visit would indeed be my last.
When it comes to peach cobbler, one shouldn’t cut corners. There are too many wonderful soul food places and bbq places that have pretty good peach cobbler in the U.S. for you not to have a half decent peach cobbler on your menu.
I was so disgusted with the service (let alone the peach cobbler), I didn’t try the food. I gave it away. I wish I would have read the reviews first. I could have saved $39.32.
First and last time.
I ordered the catfish with mac and cheese and rice and beans—everything was flavorful and comforting, just what I was hoping for. I’m already looking forward to coming back and trying more from the menu!
It knocked my socks clean off. After every bite I was clapping, punching the air and saying ‘thats what I’m talking about’. I ate every bite of that dinner, it almost convinced me to go back to Church, it renewed my faith in humanity.
Excellent serving size, price and flavor. It’s got that east coast kick that you can’t really put a finger on. I did add a little louisiana (iykyk) but honestly you could go without it and still have a happy experience.
Excellent bbq, thank you. I did not go in person, I Doordashed from this location.
Sadly, there are only 2 Tom’s locations left. One in Tempe and one in chandler. Thanks for reading.
