Reviews
Their lunch specials come with soup, rice, Chow mean and crispy noodle.
There were only two servers working: a younger woman handling cleanup and table setup, and a senior woman taking orders and serving food. The workflow felt a bit unorganized — it would be smoother if they backed each other up.
Overall, the lunch specials were solid and a good value here.
The staff were super friendly and did an excellent job serving everyone despite how busy it was. Would definitely recommend and they do take out.
Service was really quick, and love that they offer hot tea by default without having to ask. No frills, tasty food. We had the salad (a pretty standard salad with the addition of fried tofu or meat and a nice house dressing), pot stickers, portobello and prawns, and Cantonese roast duck. The buns were fresh and the duck was cooked really nicely. Overall great value and a nice break from some of the fancier eating nearby.
We were quickly seated by one of the very friendly hostesses, and supplied with Jasmin tea and water.
We ordered the Wah Wonton soup as a starter, and then the Spicy Eggplant and the Oyster Beef. Our hostess advised us that the Oyster Beef had more vegetables than the Mongolian Beef, the other choice we had considered.
The soup was amazing. A tasty broth, juicy dumplings, thin slices of beef, delicious shrimp, and loads of water chestnut, cabbage, and other veggies.
Both main dished were a dream. The beef came with snow beans, bamboo shoots and mushrooms, in a delicious sauce. It was very tender, the veggies were crunchy – all in all delicious. But the Spicy Eggplant topped it all. We have never eaten a better eggplant. It was as crunchy as it was creamy, as spicy as it was sweet, with an orange tang to the spicy sauce. A dream of a dish. It melted on the tongue.
We couldn’t finish all the fodd, so asked for boxes. Our hostess boxed the rest of our food up for us as smiling and friendly as she had been with all customers all throughout our experience.
All in all, if you are in Carmel, you shouldn’t miss out on this restaurant!
