Tommy’s Detroit Bar & Grill – Pure Michigan

American cuisine. This historic landmark has witnessed many changes in our city, but it’s always been popular spot for people from Detroit to meet.

Tommy’s Detroit Bar & Grill Review – Scoundrel’s Field Guide

Tommy’s Detroit Bar & Grill is one of the sneakier historical icons in the city of Detroit, a near-downtown dive bar dating back to 1869.

We had such a great time at Tommy’s. Great burgers and personable service. A basket of popcorn is put on your table, usually by Tommy himself, before you even realize it. We stopped in before the Tigers game & caught their shuttle to the game.

I went to Tommy’s with a group on a total lark while at a convention. We just Googled “best wings in Detroit”, Tommy’s was one of the first listed, just a short walk from the hotel and we all liked the look of the place and reviews. Definitely the best find of our trip.

This was definitely a neighborhood bar, it seemed most of the people knew each other, and there were definitely some colorful characters. The staff was great and very accommodating, and the vibe was really friendly all around. The look is definitely dive bar, but it was clean as can be and in really good shape, and the neighborhood was safe and walkable.

We were expecting run of the mill bar food, but it was definitely a cut above. The wings, tots and onions rings were all great. Their house rub on the wings came off a little salty at first, but none of us could stop eating them, especially the hot sauce provided.

Great bar food, friendly patrons and an outstanding staff made for a great night out. Definitely will be heading back to Tommy’s next time I’m in town

Stopped here on a quick weekend trip to the Detroit Autorama. The food was great, service was friendly and fast and the owner Tommy came over to personally make sure we were taken care of and having a great time. Definitely will be back next time I am in Detroit. Thanks Tommy, for making us feel so welcome!

First time expression was wonderful today. Tommy’s is a great spot with a speak easy vibe. The staff was friendly and made sure we were comfortable. The burger we ordered was I incredible. The shoestring fries were fresh and made perfect. D-Bo (kitchen) is a guy. The bar was well stocked with a wide selection of drinks. There is a jukebox available if you like that type of thing. And in the back of the restaurant there is alot to read and see about the history of the area and the building. 5 star rating and I will return when I’m back in Detroit. Thank you.

This is a great hometown bar and grill. I was so impressed by the food! The wings were especially good – they get them from a local farm 🙂 I also enjoyed the basket of waffle fries! They also give complimentary popcorn which is a great touch, and the servers are really kind and welcoming. They have a pool table and it’s decorated so nicely inside. I’ll be coming back here for sure!

Tommy’s is a classic dive bar in all th best ways. Tommy will greet you at your table, hang out, give you some great menu suggestions, and make sure you are cared for. The ruebens and the Monstah Burger were very good. Ask for queso cheese with your tots! Drinks are cheap and service is reasonable. Look around at all the memorabilia in the bar and appreciate the 185 year old building. It’s worth it!

We absolutely loved Tommy’s-an unassuming place with such deep history, wonderful homemade food and special, attentive staff!
A must for any visitors who want to experience a 180 year old bar, complete with historical facts about the former Speakeasy and hidden tunnels during the Prohibition!
We had the homemade chili and mushroom soup. They were delectable.
Our waitress Kayla (I may have the wrong spelling) is the local historian and was so generous in sharing stories.

Don’t judge a book by its cover, because this place was awesome! We ordered the jalapeño poppers, I got a well seasoned burger and Nick and the kitchen were able to accommodate my silly request of half tater tots/string fries which were delicious!
Overall service was wonderful!

Came to this local small business owned bar. A friend and I came to this venue due to hearing great things about it. Apparently, the history here goes back to the ungrounded railroad, upon the walls, pictures and maps are shown of the routed taken. The people here all seemed to be regulars and locals. The service was great, we had lots of laughs! The food was outstanding! We were given popcorn upon arrival. The pretzel bites were good, but the mustard did it for me. The shoe string fries were good and last but not least the chicken wings !! I will crave these Wings forever! Honestly, Im salivating thinking about them I highly suggest trying them and welcome to your new craving.

Tommy’s is a neighborhood joint with an eccentric staff and lots of regulars. Chill vibes, good music, sports on TV, decent wings, yummy buttered popcorn, and Steven makes a great margarita. This is generally a beer and a shot type of a place, but he felt like making margs, and we felt like drinking them. Simple, lime, not stingy with the tequila. We also had the jalapeno poppers which were pretty dang yummy and made with fresh jalapenos. Nice. The wings are seasoned nicely and have a good sauce; not too spicy, and large.

If you’re looking for interesting conversation, you will get it here. It’s divey, but the bathrooms are very clean and the place seems well managed. Lots of history, and they have a back room where a larger group could easily gather.

Sometimes you need to go to the bar to order food and drinks, even if there is waitstaff – sometimes it gets really jammed when games are happening or conventions let out from Cobo. Be patient, be nice, have a good time.
