We had a wonderful dining experience, thanks in large part to our incredible server, Tristan L. From the moment we sat down, Tristan was friendly, polite, and attentive—never letting our drinks go empty and making us feel genuinely welcome.
The food was a mix of hits and misses: the pesto penne was absolutely delicious, and the lasagna was rich and flavorful—definitely a standout! The fettuccine Alfredo wasn’t quite to my taste, but everything else more than made up for it.
The true highlight of the evening was Tristan’s exceptional service. He elevated the entire experience with his warmth and professionalism. We’ll definitely be back when back in town (from Seattle) – and hoping Tristan’s our server again!
to give high praise for our server Koa; he was everything a server should be … when we were wondering about which wine to choose he let us know which were on Happy Hour prices; he also offered to get a small taste of the wine for my friend when he wasn’t sure which to choose. He was attentive and easy to find throughout our meal. His service was excellent and his consideration for his guests in helping us make selections was appreciated. He did a fantastic job 🙂
Since my favorite Italian restaurant had closed in the Oakland area. I go to restaurants in almost the entire Bay area, but this one was a pleasant surprise for me and I have been repeating it religiously every Thursday and every day is a surprise in addition to the excellent service I always get from the waitress Cris.
It will be easy for you to find out who Cris is, she has a streak of green hair and a kind of Irish and alternative way. But she is an incredibly friendly person, I can say that she is, if not better, one of the best waitresses I have ever seen in my life, simply unforgettable… someone who makes you want to be served all the time by her, because she is wonderful. Not only in efficiency in service but also in immense friendliness.
Don’t miss out. This is an experience worth differentiating between before and after she met you.
The food is wonderful and comes quickly, the attentive Cris always remembers my name and remembers my characteristics from previous orders, like asking for a spoon to eat my spaghetti, something I’ve done since I was a child when my mother and father learned at school. Italy this. Furthermore, the care with the food, care and attention to customers is something fantastic.
Cris has a memory that always remembers her name and her characteristics, food, as well as moving quickly, with a diplomatic education. Everything comes quickly, it’s a clean and pleasant place. The staff is polite, the food is to die for and I always pray that I have found a new, better Italian restaurant for you to eat at, finally. I’m a fan of the place, I can’t have better reviews than that.
Calzone, pretty much a folded in pizza was delicious. You can select your toppings so whatever you fancy for that day, you can have it.
The January special is underwhelming. Seems to be the worst entree I have had from Tomatina. It was bland! So bland that even the Manila clams were not salty when it should have some salty taste to it naturally. Not sure what they did but yuck! Glad January ends tomorrow so they’ll have another special planned.
*pandemic update: June 2022, and the food is still fresh and made to order. Piadine, lasagna, pizzas are all safe standards the kitchen does well, and their seasonal specials are usually quite good. Prices have gone up about $8 per entree since 2020, but that’s the cost of living coupled with inflation, supply chain issues, and
We haven’t patronized Tomatina in over a decade becsuse of a past meal that was downright disgusting. We recently revisited them to discover they’ve upped their game, thankfully. Their lunch special of an app and an entree is a great value. Their kid’s meals are enough to feed 2 young kids, and it is recommended to grab a reservation on weekends via Open Table. Their base marinara sauce is very garlicky, fyi. Their lasagna is decent enough for my husband to order more than once, the kid’s pizza is what my munchkin loves and I’ve been making my way around the menu. I’d skip the chicken marsala but their salmon has been cooked very well, as well as the roasted crucifers (broccoli and cauliflower) appetizer.
Overall, an excellent value for the quality and price point for a chain restaurant.
