to really bad or really good, but we tried it anyway and I am glad we did.
It is for a post Valentine’s dinner to avoid the crowds so went on a Friday night. I made a reservation but when we arrived it was not busy. It did pick up a bit later. Off the bat, I am not comparing this with the top steak places in San Francisco that we have tried.
The service was great! Our server welcomed us and recommended the calamari for appetizer which we got. It was cooked right and it was delicious! I also tried the clam chowder which I will mot recommend. I liked a more creamy chowder and with lots of clams. Theirs is not that. We wanted the Tomahawk steak for two but they were out of stock because of Valentine’s day. So we went for the 16oz bone-in rib eye each. I ordered a Medium and it was cooked right. The steak was also delicious! To me, a good steak is simple and tasty and this was it. My wife also ordered it Medium but she is a bit more specific. What she really wants is the point in between Medium and Medium-well and they did cook it as she specified! Perhaps why it took her order longer. The owner himself came out to inform us and apologize for the slight delay of her order. On top of that, our server consistently checked on us and updated us on the status of the order. The meat itself was not the same quality as the premier steak houses but it was decent. My wife
ordered a glass of a house red wine and it was good! We already had a couple of cocktail drinks that is why she only wanted a glass of wine, otherwise we would have gotten a bottle. I believe a bottle was only $45.00.
Overall it was a great experience! Good steak, not far from us, great service, and reasonable price!
As for the food the two things pictured were pretty good (Moscow mule and brussel sprouts). The sprouts could have used a bit more sweetness though. Fettuccine with chicken was lacking. Chicken was dry and overcooked, sauce was grainy and lacking in flavor. Ribeye was cooked correctly internally (medium rare) but the exterior could have used a better sear / sauce. Drinks from the bar were good, no complaints there.
I think lot of my feedback here can be fixed easily if the owners choose to invest in their business. Replace the art, print some better menus, train your wait staff a bit more and you’ll be well on your way. Then tune your recipes a bit and you’ll be there.
I’m trying to give an honest review so that Tomahawk can improve and be a great steakhouse in our community. While I didn’t have the best experience this time, I hope to go back someday and see some improvements.
Food was beyond expectations.
Get the Oysters Rockefeller and Steak Sandwich!
Can’t wait to come back! Hassan will make sure you will have an amazing experience!
Great servers and was super attentive to our drinks and needs
Came here for anniversary dinner.
Food was really good and I had the tomahawk steak. Highly recommended. The calamari was really
Chef was supper pleasant and nice. Really appreciate the great experience and positive atmosphere from the staff.
I normally don’t leave reviews but felt staff should get some appreciation since they don’t get positive recognition they deserve.
If your still reading this. Just go check it out yourself
The clam chowder was incredibly runny; seems like it never had a chance to thicken. The same goes for the creamed spinach. The 8 oz. filet was inadequately seasoned and dry. The bread was dry and crumbly, despite an attempt to salvage it by pouring some butter on top.
There’s no reason a restaurant that bills itself as a fine-dining steakhouse should miss the mark on steak, let alone several other dishes. At this price point, it’s not unreasonable to expect consistency and finesse.
We were one of two tables seated on a Saturday night in an unusually warm dining room. We should have recognized that as a red flag the moment we walked in.
