Ordered a super tom and a chicken strip dinner. It was $21 total, the burger being over $8 itself. I had no idea it was just a patty, cheese, onion, & pickles, which I know now because I called to make sure that I had gotten the correct item. I ordered it without onion so it was very unimpressive, especially for $8+. Even accounting for my own mistake of assuming I’d be getting a fully loaded “super” burger, the patty was pretty over done and hard to eat. The chicken strip dinner for $11.99 was good though. Besides the quality of the patty vs price point, this review isn’t necessarily meant to be bad, just make sure to ask what comes on everything, as annoying as that makes you, since there are no descriptions or visuals.

This of the highway roadside diner with fast friendly service was a highlight of my recent trip to Iowa from Minnesota. The building is kind of nondescript and run down. It looks like an abandoned fast food place. There are lots of booths to sit in and you seat yourself and order at the counter. Our food was brought to our table. It was kitschy and mismatched retro but very clean and nice updated clean restrooms. I had a breakfast sandwich. The ham on the sandwich was so good. I also had a soda and a cinnamon roll. Great place. The lunch menu looked amazing too but we had to get on the road. My travel sidekick enjoyed his meal too he had a breakfast platter and we shared a glazed donut that was the best donut I have ever eaten. The service was prompt and friendly.

I stopped here for lunch and the place was really busy, but the drive thru and counter service. After a short wait I placed my order for ½ order of hot turkey and ½ order of hot beef so I could try both. This is one of the only places I have ever seen the ½ order available, it’s a great idea.
They brought my food to my table and the first thing I noticed was the turkey sandwich not only had mashed potatoes, but it also had stuffing, all generously coated in gravy. The Turkey was tender and flavorful. It was a good portion considered it was a ½ order.
The beef came with mashed potatoes and gravy. The beef looked dry, but it tasted good. The gravy was also good tasting. If I had to say anything, the mashed potatoes needed salt, which is an easy fix table side. Other than that, this was a great meal for the money and the ½ orders are really nice to see, I wish more places had that. I will definitely be back the next time I’m in the area.

I love stopping here when I’m in Fort Dodge! It’s my go too spot.
A clean, reasonably priced, friendly place to eat.
I hear they have excellent chicken, I’m stuck on the Hot Beef. It’s the best. Just like old school diner comfort food from my youth!!!
This place is a treasure!
I would strongly recommend it!

Tom Thumb is an institution here in Fort Dodge. If you ever find yourself in Fort Dodge you should stop by. The interior will take you back to a different time but that’s not all. Try the Hot Beef or some delicious chicken dinner you can’t go wrong with that. My all-time favorite is the stuffing. My husband and I sometimes go through the drive through just to get 4 pints of stuffing. We don’t care much for the gravy that comes with it but give the stuffing a try. (Between you and me…it is better than my mother-in-law’s stuffing and she is a phenomenal cook – Don’t tell her I said that )

If you’re a bit confused by the Tom Thumb sign on top of a Dairy Queen sign, don’t let it stop you from visiting. You won’t be disappointed by the great food, and oh yeah there’s a bakery up front. Our chicken and fish dinners were delicious, complemented by home made rolls. More love is given to the food than the building, which shows an embarrassing lack of attention, but that didn’t stop a steady stream of diners who know good food when they see it.

Short review: I do not recommend
Long review:
Very expensive for what it was
When I looked at their menu online, their pricing is incorrect so, when I ordered over the phone and found out the total was almost $10 more than anticipated, I was a little bit shocked
Not a big deal but their website needs to be updated
Their food was just eh. Bad for the price to be honest
The burger is super thin and for $3.75 a piece, I should have walked a few extra steps and went to the other side of the restaurant to dairy queen
(My burger is just cheese and ketchup, I’m a picky eater I know)
The burger and the fries tasted like McDonald’s which, conveniently is right next to there as well
For double the price, you can get the same food as mcdonalds
Sorry but, I definitely do not recommend

Don’t think I’d call this a burger… the cheese slice is thicker than the meat. My 4th time here and I’ve yet to find something enjoyable on the menu. Don’t think I’ll be trying again in the future.
