I’m very disappointed in what was sent to me after I ordered. I have been looking for cassava leaf near me for a long time. I usually drive to silver spring to get it. (Sweet sweet kitchen) I ordered through their website and they sent me a container full of OIL. Barely any cassava. The meat was so TOUGH. I could barely chew it. This was completely unhealthy and unacceptable. $47 for a container full of OIL!!!

I had a rather disappointing experience. I love African food and was hoping to find a spot to go to on occasion on my way to work, but I shall not come here again. To start, the atmosphere was rather uninviting– one of two large overhead lights was out, making it fairly dark inside, and the snack display was sparsely stocked, and I think a bit dusty. There was no music so it was dead silent except for the Christian preaching radio outside. Also, it smelled a bit like fish. Nobody else was there and I could understand why. I had time to stay and eat but was not interested in doing so.

I ordered a meat stew and although the flavor of the spices was good, the meat was grisly and tough. I heard them using the microwave a number of times which had me concerned about what else they were skimping on in my $25 meal. The use of the microwave was also likely why the meat was so tough.

My suggestions to the owner:
-Put some garlic in the oven so the place smells fragrant and inviting.
-Keep the snack display well stocked so you present the aire of abundance.
-Have some African High Life music or other African music playing at a low level inside
-Fix the big light
-Dont use the microwave (just throw things in a pan. Water will be better retained that way, keeping meats relatively tender. I would have been happy to wait 20 mins rather than the 10 the waitress told me.)

Visited Baltimore for a conference and found very few African restaurants open after 7 p.m., but this one stood out. Excellent food and service. The owner was very friendly and even offered us a special tea on a cold night. Reasonable prices and top-quality food. Highly recommended.

Ok so I went to Tola today even though some of your reviews told me the place and food is trash and to go to hell instead of coming here but me I like to experience my own whahala when it comes to food so I’m just here to say you guys are liars and may GOD forgive you all

So let’s get to it, when you walk in it does smell like gas but that’s not an issue for me because I like good food infact it don’t seem like anything was burning or anyone was dying so which one concern me? ‍♀️

Anyhow let’s continue I got there and I called in advance to ask about the Acheke so as I walked in my aunty at the register was nice smile and said did you call about it, I said yes she disappear and went to get my food.

You people told me the kitchen give suspect so I stood on the side and watch them put my food together the whole time and nothing suspicious was happening at all. In fact it was just my three African aunties in the kitchen talking to each other and gathering my food for me and making it hot, one of my aunties even cut the tomatoes and onions for my food fresh as I watched.

Anyways my food arrived again two of my aunties came to the counter one told me to enjoy my meal and the other one took my card. They both looked on edge and as an African I think they thought i wasn’t American and was trying to figure out if it was my first time trying African food and if I was going to like it, that’s my assumption or maybe they look like that because you crazy people have left so many madness as reviews so they were overly trying to impress me either way I felt welcomed so aunties thank you.

Finally I came and I have consumed this meal like someone who was starving for 10years. The food was hot in temperature and spices just the way I like it. Infact Jesus himself baked the fish. I am full and happy. Highly recommend this place go there eat and enjoy and support Africa.
Oh and to my three aunties in the kitchen I’m from Liberia and listen this food was delicious!!!!!!!

The meat was tough and you couldn’t chew it. The lady did not explain the the menu. When we walked in all we could smell is gas. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food I brought is going in the trash. My dog will not eat the food . The food is greasy with a lot of spices. It did not look clean. I should have listened to my brain and turned around and left. Do the health department know that that is a restaurant.

Stumbled across Tola and I’ve been coming back for more ever since! I’m hooked on their cassava, Efo, Engusi, and fufu. The flavors are very authentic and delicious. I’m now a Tola regular!

Fantastic Nigerian food!
I ordered jollof rice, plantains and fried fish. Rice was yummy. I tried jollof rice from many different places. This would probably be top on my list if I recommend anyone to get jollof rice. Highly recommend anyone who wants to try African food or maybe interested in trying a different cuisine. Their food would give you authentic vibes.
The owner Tola added some spinach as a side dish when I said I was super excited to try their food. I will be back to try something else soon.
