Authentic Japanese sushi may not be for you.
Unless you are like me and:
☑️ Tired of eating at low quality buffets
☑️ Tired of low quality all-you-can-eat sushi
☑️ Tired of chasing overpriced Michelin stars
☑️ Tired of viral trends
☑️ Tired of being fooled by influencers
☑️ Tired of the word omakase おまかせbeing used for what is actually a set sushi menu…
This is a spot that I’ve personally been keeping to myself for a while now, because it’s just that good.
Why this place is just that good:
1️⃣ Japanese sushi chef & staff
2️⃣ Taste & texture just like Japan
3️⃣ Vibes & service just like Japan
4️⃣ Chef’s choice flights with no filler, like egg, squid, shrimp, etc. All fish.
5️⃣ No Michelin stars needed because here, I feel like I’m back in Japan at a hidden local mom & pop spot. Gritty, charming, and hidden.
Not convinced about this underrated spot?
Good, don’t go, so it won’t be crowded. It’s easier for those that actually like eating sushi as it’s intended to be, raw.
For me, this is my top Japanese sushi spot OTP after literally trying them all.

One of the best casual sushi Japanese restaurants I’ve been to in Atlanta area. On the pricier side, but the portion size was very good and the fish quality was excellent. Server was exceptionally friendly. If you enjoy traditional Japanese sushi, add this to your list! It’s a small operation and only open for dinner, so it’s highly recommended (if not required) to place a reservation.

By far the best Japanese restaurant I’ve been to in Atlanta. Even compared to restaurants in Japan, Tokyo Shokudo would still be one of the best. Starting with appetizers, the skewers were amazing, the yakitori and shiitake mushrooms were some of the best I’ve ever had. For the entree, we ordered the Take Chirashi Don, and the sashimi was all incredibly fresh and high quality, with the rice and other assortments perfectly complimenting the fish. A vegetarian in our party ordered the agedashi tofu, and although I wasn’t expecting much, the dish turned out to be a surprising favorite. The sauce is light yet fragrant and was absorbed into the tofu, giving it a very complex umami flavor. Would highly recommend going out of your way to visit.

Perfect yakitori. The wasabi hidden in the nigiri catches the fishy smell. I’ll come again

If you’re looking for authentic Japanese food, Tokyo Shokudo is the place to go! I recently visited this restaurant and was blown away by the quality of the food. The hamachi kama was a standout dish for me and had a unique flavor that I couldn’t find anywhere else.
What impressed me most about Tokyo Shokudo was the attention to detail from the Japanese chef. You can really taste the authenticity in every dish, and it’s clear that every ingredient is carefully selected and prepared to perfection.
Overall, I highly recommend Tokyo Shokudo for anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Japanese dining experience. Whether you’re a seasoned sushi lover or just looking to try something new, you won’t be disappointed by the incredible food and impeccable service at this restaurant.

Delicious, authentic Japanese food! The fish was fresh and everything else was so good. They are a little slow because it’s a husband and wide team, but well worth the wait.
This is not your typical cheap sushi, so they won’t have a lot of rolls with tempura or mayo smeared all over.

Such a hidden gem in Atlanta! The fishes are incredibly fresh, and the service is attentive. The wait time can be slightly longer (but reasonable) due to the entire restaurant being operated by a lovely old Japanese couple from Tokyo, but the food really make it worth it.

I have traveled far and wide and this is by far the best sushi to have ever landed on my taste buds. I come here every time I am in town, and the sushi chef is always welcoming. The fish is so fresh, the sushi is to die for. One time, they were slammed, so the food took longer than usual. No problem for me, it’s worth the wait. But, after our delicious meal, the waitress brought us ice cream on the house and thanked us for our patience. Very considerate hosts, and the food is oh so good. Reasonably priced, too! Every time I have a friend looking for a place to eat, this is the first place I take them. I wish I could give this wonderful joint more than 5 stars!
