I do wish the Toro was a bit less expensive as I found it to be fishy for the $90 we spent on the 4 pieces of sashimi…. It also seems like their omakase is more of a chef’s special than a true omakase.
Otherwise I really like personalizing the hand rolls, dynamite dynamite, salmon lovers, double crunchy, and many more!
If they had continued to use the old building, my wife and I would have continued to go to this place multiple times per year in the future. Our first date was in their old building 16 years ago today.
Now instead of being able to watch the sunset to the west, customers can only see cheap fluorescent lights and the sheathing around the electrical wires that feed them on the west wall.
We will never ever sit inside the new building ever again.
Also they used to list the name of the sushi roll with the price to the right of the name of the product, like a reasonable restaurant would do.
They now list the sushi roll with the number of slices to the right of the name of the roll instead of the price! Arbitrary – you give anyone a knife and they can cut the slices however slim or fat they want. So the name of the roll is on the front of the menu along with the number of slices, Then The price of the roll is all the way on the back of the menu.
That’s not shady at all, right!
The place is huge from what I remember and good for big parties, while the Parking could be tricky.
My boyfriend and I stopped in for a quick lunch, and were confused about the menu (it isn’t descriptive and half of the items have prices while the other half doesn’t). When we asked our server she was rude and condescending. There was this on and off high pitched buzzing happening our entire meal, and we over heard the other table bothered about it as well, saying they were “going crazy”. When I asked my server she simply said “No. your ears are ringing.” And then asked “is everything alright ma’am” (I’m from the south this was not a kind ma’am). We just ordered whatever because we felt silly for asking questions.
We really love to try new restaurants, and usually tip generously because we understand the hustle as we are servers too.
