Notes from the Sweet Spot
Still Searching…We chose this place for lunch because it’s next to The Picklr, where we were going afterwards (we were visiting Mesa). We arrived around 12:30pm on a Wednesday and we were the only guests…good or bad sign? Since we hadn’t had Japanese curry in a while, a favorite of ours, we both ordered the Japanese curry, one with chicken and the other with tonkatsu (breaded, deep fried pork cutlet). In our opinion the curry was below average, unfortnately. The meal also came with fried chicken skewer with sweet sauce and fried dumplings…we expected grilled chicken skewere, not deep-fried, and perhaps a panfried dumpling, not deep fried. Temper your expectations if you plan to dine here.

Food was amazing and even though they were busy, the service was great! We ordered the sukiyaki, gyudon, katsudon and the ramen. We loved all of it and they sides of the Gyoza and chicken skewer were yummy as well. Owners are from Japan and I love that this is family owned

I ordered the tenzaru soba and it was delicious! Exactly how I expected/hoped it would taste and it came with A LOT of tempura. The barley tea was also very refreshing. I’ll definitely have to come back to get my zaru noodle fix.

You get what you pay for here. A little pricey but incredibly impressive seafood dishes. My bowl consisted of raw: salmon, marinated salmon, tuna, octopus, and squid. Food is clean, delicious, and filling. Couldn’t recommend it more

Our group had a wonderful experience at Toh Zan. You can tell the family really takes pride in ensuring every customer is welcomed and enjoys their time and meal.
The food reminds you of a home cooked Japanese meal with what you can taste as quality ingredients.
What a great Mesa hidden gem and pray more people come out in support of this amazing family business.

This is one of the best restaurants in the area, of any kind, that I’ve been to. The miso soup was fantastic. Green tea and peach drink were also excellent. The beef teriyaki with vegetables satesfied my hunger, and was delicious. The service is fast and professional. I even enjoyed the green beans (I almost never eat them). Definitely planning to return sometime. Note the hours. They close at 2:30PM and reopen at 5.

Yes, try this place! It was so good. The price was not bad and the food was all very delicious.
Takoyaki was perfectly fried, and seasoning was exceptional. Miso Ramen was very tasty; it had a bit too many ingredients. All the ingredients were delicious, but I wanted more broth. The katsu-donburi was the best! Chicken was prefectly cooked w/ onions over rice, so fricken good. I’ll be back.

I’ve been eating here since 2012. The food is the most authentic I have found in the valley. The two who own it are an absolute gem. Affordable prices and always quick service.
