Our chef and waitress were super charming — I’d probably come back for them alone. Portions are VERY generous and prepared as requested.

There’s not much else I can say that other positive reviews haven’t already said. Great food, amazing staff experience, good atmosphere.

The only negative thing worth mentioning is that you might have a hard time finding parking directly outside (in Evanston, shocking I know)

This was our first time here , everything went well! The service the food was good and the entertainment was phenomenal. Where I give them 2 stars and I don’t to give them 1 but at the end when it came time to pay the server ( female with glasses ) looked at me and said ” oh the tips are split between me and the chef ” mind you there’s already a 20% gratuity charge. I was left stunned for a little in my mind I was like so what do you want? 30% 40% in tips????????? Ridiculous, killed the whole vibe of the evening it’s things like this that are preventing people from eating out.

My wife & I had a wonderful evening at Todoroki! We arrived early in the evening and so we had a hibachi table all to ourselves, which was cool! Overall the portion sizes are huge, the cooking is fun to watch, and the food is delicious. Pro Tip: A 20% service charge is included regardless of your party size (at least for the hibachi). It makes sense, but I wish it had been called out better, as I almost double-tipped!

Valentines day with the family. The staff was overwhelmed and it showed, too many customers is a good problem to have. service was a little rocky but we spoke to the manager and she made it right. we’ve been to this restaurant a few times now and overall its great.

Their staff is so welcoming and understanding. I have trouble digesting raw fish sometimes and easily get food poisoning but I never have to worry about that when dining at todoroki! Their sushi and sashimi quality is great for the price. I highly recommend the place!

Great dining experience at a Japanese restaurant in Evanston. Vegetarian options are limited.
Vegetarian hibachi is good in taste and the quantity is sufficient for 2 people for dinner. Mango mochi is a great dessert option here and of the best mochis in Evanston.

I dined in on a Friday night and we came at a decent time. There was only one waitress for the tables which made service a bit slow for the ayce. The menu states a lemon drop as $11. The check shows it for $14. Please update your menu, as that is a huge deceptive jump. I paid it, but I will be asking the prices for drinks moving forward.

SERVICE
The staff was really attentive and friendly, which was the highlight of the experience. That said, some of the rules made dining here kind of frustrating. You can’t order more nigiri until the whole platter is finished, which doesn’t work well when you eat at a different pace or like different things than your dining partner. I also overheard another table being told they couldn’t split the bill across more than one credit card, which seems like an unnecessary hassle. On top of that, one of the sushi chefs kept staring at us the entire time, which was honestly uncomfortable. They also automatically add a 20% service fee to the bill, even for small parties. I normally tip at least 20% regardless, but having been a waitress my whole life, I really dislike when restaurants take that choice away.

FOOD
This is where things really fell short for me. The rolls just didn’t have much flavor… the shrimp was basically nonexistent (even in the shrimp tempura roll), and instead of making a crab salad, they just used imitation crab sticks. On top of that, there was way too much rice, which made it hard to enjoy the actual fish. The miso soup was lukewarm, and the hibachi was limited to one per table (no matter how many people you’re with). It was basically chicken or beef drowned in teriyaki sauce with a diabetes-friendly amount of rice. The one bright spot was the chicken karaage, which was at least palatable, but not something I’d go out of my way to order again.

VALUE
Lunch was $21.99 per person, which was more than the $19.99 price listed on their website. Drinks are $3.50 for a soft drink, and they’re Pepsi products (not even Coke). For hibachi, they also charge $6 if you want to take home what you can’t finish — which will mainly just be rice. Between the higher-than-advertised lunch price, the automatic 20% service fee, and the underwhelming food, the value just isn’t there.

OVERALL
While the staff was kind and attentive, the food and odd rules just didn’t make the experience enjoyable. The service kept this from being a 1–2 star review, but it’s not somewhere I’d choose to return.

Meh. Everything. Hibachi was salty. If you eat things here in general, you intake a lot of oil. The next day, after eating this food i woke up and the inflammation in my body was out of this world!! The oils used to fry up to hibachi must be really bad(processed seed oils). Also in the beginning, they tell you, it’s $21.99 per person for the AYCE sushi , and then when the bill comes out, it’s calculated as $29.99 per person!! If we had not checked and tried to clarify the discrepancy, we would have ended up silently paying extra for nothing!! Make sure you go over your bill to see everything is correct, every time. Another review said something similar. The out the door amount total was kind of shady for us

This place is reasonably priced for ‘all you can sushi’ joint. We celebrated our mom’s birthday here and ate a ton of sushi. The only caveat is that you have to finish everything on your plate before you can order more, so choose wisely. Next time, I will come back with a smart strategy.
