Not impressed. The portions were very small. My side salad was a joke. See the white spots on my toast? That’s supposed to be brie. Any other item I’ve had like that was full slices of brie. My husband had a salad that was also a disappointment and served in plastic with plastic utensils. The write up on their website was impressive and the pictures looked good but it seems like they want to be a cocktail bar and the food is an after thought. Our waitress was pleasant but overwhelmed. I had a toast dish at another restaurant the next day and there was at least 5x as much food on each slice and it was $3 more.

Toasted Barrel inside SpringHill Suites is a small, cozy spot with a surprisingly good selection of bourbons and live music that sets a nice vibe. It’s a comfortable place for a drink before heading out, but nothing particularly memorable. Good, not great—worth a stop if you’re already staying at the hotel.

This is the best hotel bar that isn’t a hotel bar I’ve ever visited; and I’ve visited many! It’s connected to the Springhill Suites but you can’t just add your tab to your hotel bill. But, whatever you do, don’t let that stop you from having cocktails here! They “pretend” to be a bourbon bar but their gin, amari, tequila, and mezcal selection is just as meticulously curated. Not large but the ones you want. You won’t be disappointed ordering a cocktail off the menu but their beverage manager, Kieanie, is a “Willy Wonka” of spirits. Tell her what you like and let her make something for you. It’ll probably include an ingredient you’ve never tried before but you’ll leave wanting to go buy a bottle at your local package store.

The real secret here, besides great drinks, is the staff. They have created the environment where their staff can try recipes and build their own following. I was there recently and the “special” menu had five cocktails created by one of the bartenders, Megan. I didn’t have all of them but the ones I did have were excellent. Just what you want in a cocktail … Delicious. Refreshing. Surprising. But leaving you wanting another!

When I was last there I asked Megan for a simple (Sorry. Small curve ball … Perfect) Martini. Not only was it perfectly made but, based on a conversation we had been having, she added a spritz of absinthe over the top. Now, this is the only way I’ll make them at home.

To me, this epitomizes Toasted Barrel. It isn’t a “beer and a shot” place … Unless that’s what you want! It’s a hidden Downtown Savannah gem.

I will continue coming back, even if I’m not staying at hotel. Heck, I’ll make a reason to come to Savannah just to spend time, and have a drink, with the team at Toasted Barrel.

Toasted Barrel is one of my favorite spots in town. It is my “Cheers”. Megan has been there forever, and she always greats us with a smile and knows exactly what we want. I love the beet and goat cheese toast. The prices for drinks are some of the best in town, and the wine choices are delicious. They usually have GOOD live music. It is simply an easy, comfortable place to go. Always a great experience.

The server and manager were lovely. However, our salads came out in plastic bowls that you would get at the airport or togo, the croutons were stale, and the food was not super flavored. The staff was pleasant in adjusting the bill to meet our needs, but for the cost of the items, we will not be returning. Great espresso martini though!

Let me just start out by saying that this place has always stood out to me since I moved to Savannah, and I have been so eager to eat here…but I kind of feel like I’ve been let down. Atmosphere of this place looked and felt amazing, the lady we had as our server was absolutely PHENOMENAL! So my boyfriend and I ordered the classic grilled cheese and the three cheese sandwich with tomato soup. The sandwiches came out half toasted half soggy, and mine was awkwardly stuck together, so when you pulled it apart, it tore all of the bread and was a mess. The tomato soup honestly tasted like it was out of a can and it had a strange cinnamon bread as croutons on top. I ordered the Footloose to drink, and my boyfriend ordered The 993. His drink was so good! Mine on the other hand smelt like the inside of an Advance auto parts and tasted like how a tire smells…I am very much use to Bourbon/Whiskeys and not mixed drinks so maybe this just wasn’t for me all together. The server was more than willing to get me an entire new drink, and it was the Southern Oragami, which was Amazing!!! Our drinks, however, come out way after our food was delivered to us and even patrons that come in way after us had their drinks first, so that was frustrating. I know that they were having a lot of issues with their cook that night and everything just seemed so off, but the server was unbelievably nice and even gave us a free shot at closing. So, like I said, maybe we just got it on a bad day but if it wasn’t for our amazing server I wouldn’t go back.

The atmosphere was great, very quiet. Drinks were good. Sweet potato tots were amazing. My daughter loves grilled cheese and she would touch it after one bite. It was rubbery and cold. Maybe it’s a hit or miss but the looked pressed not grilled.

I was greeted when I walked in!
The server explained everything to me (she was lighter complexion, curly hair) she was so nice and told me the drink specials with politeness.

Grill cheeses are their specialties so don’t go expecting to get a bowl of shrimp alfredo lol but varieties are available. I had the salmon grill cheese with fries 10/10 and the dipping sauce that comes with !

The environment was a vibe. Chill and great for taking pics!

The 3 cheese grilled cheese was ‘A’ for effort and ‘B+’ for execution. I get that it’s a slightly different interpretation of grilled cheese (bread with character, and less greasy “grill”), but temp and cheese distribution or melting pattern just weren’t quite there.
Service at the bar was largely dismal. The bartender would immediately forget what was asked of her. This happened with me 3 times or more, and she always seemed to think this was the first time I was asking when I would ask again.
The wait for the food was long. The space itself is nice. I enjoyed my whiskey sampler, but given there are only a few samplers, seems they could provide a short tasting notes thing.

I had the pleasure today of trying a new drink, thanks to my server Megan. This is a toasted origami, I don’t usually drink bourbon but this drink is DELICIOUS! I am on pre-birthday behavior, my birthday is tomorrow, and I will be going back to the toasted barrel with friends and family it’s nice and cozy in the atmosphere is just warm and inviting, not to mention the delicious food you see in the pictures below. I had sweet potato tots with Parmesan cheese and a pulled pork grilled cheese. YUMMY!! This is definitely going to be one of my new favorite spots to visit when I come to Savannah, my second home.
