Toast & Yolk operates as a ghost kitchen with 70+ other restaurants in the Picnic Digital Foods Court. To order for pick-up or delivery, you can either use their app: Picnic Foods or go online.
This is the first that I’ve seen/experienced a large scale restaurant co-op, modernizing the traditional food hall experience. It’s easy with no live person interaction… unless you need it like I did on my 1st order.
I ordered for pick-up & was given a 10-min. ETD. There’s no parking lot & found a space around the corner, & arrived on the dot. Upon entering, I see some kiosks, a bunch of lockers, & limited counter seating that I realize Toast & Yolk is not a standard sit-down restaurant. Luckily, there was a woman at the only window counter, & she explained that I can check-in to confirm my arrival on the kiosk, which will also notify the kitchen, provide status of your order, & indicate which locker contains your order (when ready). And mine was still pending. I’ve been here a few times & my initial order’s timing was totally off by another 20-mins. whereas the others were closer to the ETD.
It’s pretty cool & unique! Go to the kiosk to either place your order, or scan/enter the order code & the door will automatically open if your order’s ready… so efficient & hygienic! For my newbie visit, my order was unusually delayed for some reason, the server called me from the window when it was ready. The bag was sealed & pipin’ hot, & my lunch was still hot after a 15-min. drive to the office. Everything was neatly packaged/arranged & no spills, including my drink; it also included a note to “spin the wheel & redeem your prize at Picnic (I won a free drink).”
I rushed to snap pics & unwrapped this deliciousness! How could you not? With these tantalizing scents teasing my senses. The sandwich looked average in size & filling felt just right, yet it’s soooooo satisfying to the palate & any hunger pangs! The Texas toast is thick & soft, nicely toasted & holds the filling in from start to finish. It’s stuffed with perfectly soft scrambled eggs & perfectly melted cheese, thick cuts of crisp hickory smoked bacon. The aioli binds & marries the flavors together, adding umami & citrusy profiles to taunt your taste buds, with a sprinkling of chives to complement & add contrast to the spread. The tots are perfectly fried & salted just right, giving a nice crunch & fluffy tender inside with every bite. And lastly, I quenched my thirst with a strawberry hibiscus lemonade… a perfectly refreshing balance of sweet, fruity strawberry with floral, tart notes of hibiscus, & tangy zest of lemon citrus. Yes, I’m using ‘perfect’ way too much, but that’s just what it was — perfect.
I also tried El Valiente on a subsequent visit because I’m all about heat, & while it’s not high on the Scoville scale, the sandwich certainly packs a punch on flavor! Toast & Yolk hits another home run on execution & taste!!
It’s a compact menu with moderate prices that’s executed well (at least my orders were), consisting of sandwiches, toasts, salads/bowls, extras (sides), & drinks. I haven’t found anything in the South Bay quite like Toast & Yolk in terms of offerings (really, really fantabulously satisfying breakfast sandwiches!) & execution. Technically, there’s no “live” service provided since you’re basically interacting with the kiosk, then locker; if you consider the order timing, then it’s pretty much on the mark except for the 1st visit.
If you can’t tell, I absolutely love, love, love Toast & Yolk… definitely worth repeating/revisiting again & again!!! It’s eggs-actly what you crave!
Hashbrowns were popping like always. Our waiter, Fisher, was very friendly and gave us excellent service. This is my favorite brunch place in cstat, will definitely be back!

I also indulged in a Cinnamon Toast that was out of this world! The vanilla bean mascarpone mousse was incredibly light and fluffy, perfectly complementing the caramelized Fuji apples and apple butter. The sea salt caramel drizzle elevated the dish to new heights, creating a perfect sweet-and-salty harmony. Each bite was a buttery, delightful explosion of flavors, making it hard to resist going back for more.
Overall, both dishes were seriously delicious and made for a memorable meal. I highly recommend trying them if you’re looking for a unique and satisfying brunch experience!
Verdict: Quick, delicious, and made with care — a must-try for breakfast lovers on the move.
