Came here with friends after seeing a video on TikTok the wait was really long for our drinks we ordered immediately as we got sat down the waitress talk with maybe crochet ponytail like 4 of them seem really confused couldn’t remember orders, and don’t get me started on the food took a little over a hour to come out waitress let us know beacaue our order was big it kept being out to the side to complete smaller orders??? Like what then the food was terrible fish was good grits taste like and have the texture of potatoes the French toast look like regular bread and tasted like it then the shrimp and grits was oily grits again were terrible only came with 4 shrimp for $21? The drinks were gone y the time the food came out no refills btw so paid extra which is fine if it came out in a timely manner the drinks were very watered down only thing that was ok was the chicken and waffles apparently

I went early on a Saturday morning, took my son. It was the cutest place! The staff was friendly and the food was so good!! I think that was the best French toast I ever had!! Light, not overly filled with the sweet cream – it was just right. We also had the homies (home fries) and I had the turkey bacon. They did not miss! I also had the Watermelon Mint Lemonade… oh my goodness!! The most refreshing drink! And they also allowed me to sample the Peach Lavender Lemonade – it was equally amazing! I will be going back, it’s definitely worth the trip.

Ok so boom! If you’re an out of towner who’s used to brunch at large establishments then coming to Philly may be a bit of a culture shock. We called 5+ plus places and visited at least three before finding Toast Cafe. Philly is a big BYOB city in regard to their restaurant scene. Luckily this place participates in that trend. We were fortunate they answered the phone and had a table available for us; but I do think a reservation is encouraged. The phone was all a 10/10. The grits and whiting were excellent; the fish was cooked properly and the gravy had great flavor. The bourbon sauce was yummy like a Mumbo sauce almost and the chicken was crisp. The star for me was the praline French toast, it was the best French toast I’ve personally had and I hope they never take it off the menu because I would come back it. I love that they served beef bacon as well. The uncorking fee is only $10 which is a plus. The meal was moderately priced and I would for sure come back. Thank yall!

It disappointed me that I wasn’t in love with this place. I came here for a Sunday brunch and started with the peach lavender lemonade, which was lovely and refreshing despite not really tasting like peach and/or lavender. For an entree, I got the fried catfish sandwich. The catfish was perfectly fried and I ate my sandwich in two seconds. The fries were just okay. My sister, however, ordered the chicken and waffles, and complained that the waffles were cold and rubbery, and the chicken tenders were dry with too many layers of crust outside of them. My mother got the blueberry lemon jawn french toast, and said that it was tasty but cold. She also ordered a side of the chicken tenders and came to the same conclusion as my sister. I loved the Mohammed Ali and Malcolm X mural. I did not love the flies or how loud the music was.

Took my daughter to brunch for her birthday. We went to @toastcafewithjaeroche. The food was AMAZING as was the staff. I had the Bourbon Chicken and Waffle’s with a side of cheese eggs and my daughter had Catfish and Whitting with potatoes and eggs. If you guys go there, make sure you have a reservation as they get pretty busy, but if you don’t, it’s worth the wait. They have Mimosas on Sunday.

I am very sorry to leave only a three star review, as this restaurant was overall a great spot! I thought the waitstaff was so friendly and attentive, and I absolutely loved our server. She was so kind and I loved playing Connect 4 at our table.

I also think that the food was delicious, and the portions were very generous. I ordered the Whiting and Cheesy Grits, and my partner got the chicken and waffles, and both were very good.

The reason my review was only 3 stars is unfortunately that my partner and i were sat next to the counter, and we noticed quite a bit of mouse poop all over the underside of some of the equipment on the counter (the attached photo is only a small amount of it). I feel bad potentially losing customers for a local business, but I’d also feel terrible letting anyone get sick if there are hygiene issues. I really think this place could be a great breakfast spot, and I totally would return here if not for this. I hope this review can reach the owners’ attention and that any pest issues can be handled.

I enjoyed the blueberry lemon French toast Grits were delicious, especially with the shrimp sauce. We also got some lemonade.

I was able to do walk in and sit at the bar since it was only two people and not too busy.

Service was really good as well.

We came for my mother’s 82nd birthday. The food was amazing. I ordered grits with catfish my mom ordered a whiting sandwich. The fish was switched. I caused a curfuffle, but the food was good. We both enjoyed the food regardless . It’s difficult when we are in a space of rules and regulations that don’t fit what’s happening. I didn’t want to return what I was enjoying and I apologize for putting you in a space where reality trumped honesty. Please go to this place the food is so good. We were a group of five and everyone enjoyed the food.

Nice breakfast/brunch spot. The food was good! I had the spicy jerk salmon & grits. Very nice flavor and loved the plantains with the dish. However, it took a while for the food to arrive. All the staff members were very nice. That’s a bonus to return and try more food items on the menu. Good tea too! I will visit again.
