The restaurant was fairly busy, but we were seated and helped right away. Service was prompt and friendly, and the atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming.
My wife ordered the mac & cheese and said it was some of the best she’s had — super creamy and flavorful. The only downside was the chicken on top, which was pretty bland, so she ended up eating around most of it.
I went with the heartland burger. It was decent, but overall pretty middle-of-the-road not worth the $17. The patty looked very uniform and neatly circular — almost like it may have been frozen rather than hand-formed (though I could be wrong). The meat itself was fine, and the barbecue sauce was actually really good. The coleslaw lacked flavor, and while the corn fritters underneath the burger were a nice touch, they were just okay. Same with the Brussels sprouts — not bad, just nothing memorable.
Overall, it’s a solid spot with good service and a nice vibe. We’d go back at some point, but we’re not necessarily rushing to return. Would be worth trying again and seeing if other items are any better
processed cheese slices plus mushrooms! The best part was the Guinness braised onions. This was a definitely an elevated Patty Melt – I won’t be able to order one anywhere else after this one.
It could have been shift change when we came in because after being seated and ordering, I began to see more wait staff, not just the one waitress who seated us and took our order. Additionally I saw several wait staff standing around at the end of the bar and at least two were drinking alcohol. (I know they were staff as I had seen one of them bringing out food earlier but didn’t see them working after they started drinking.)
Our food was satisfactory but the waitress we had never came around to ask about the food or refill our drinks. When she dropped off our check, there were additional food items on the check that we hadn’t ordered. It took a few minutes to get her attention and get the correct check.
Then to top it all off, they displayed the different tip amounts (as many places now do) but the tip was figured on the total check amount after taxes, not just the amount of the cost of the food. I’m all for leaving an appropriate tip, but I’m not tipping on the 10% tax to the government.
Needless to say, it will probably be a few more years before I give them a try again.
