The Tip Top Tavern staff graciously accommodated our party of 10 in the little side room area, for a birthday celebration. Our server Kris was thoughtful and helpful. The cheese curds are sooooo good, and my mac and cheese came with a super flavorful, blackened chicken breast. Really good! My husband said his burger was good but not the best he’s had recently. Their bar selection is quite nice, and I was able to warm up with a hot toddy even. Yum!

We finally made it in to try the fish fry that we’ve heard about so many times, and it did not disappoint! We arrived at about 6 PM and they said it would be about a 20-minute wait. They had us sat in 5 minutes! I ordered a brandy old fashioned and the fried walleye with fries. Everything was excellent! From the right amount of breading on the fish, to the battered fries and homemade tartar sauce, I was really impressed. The vibe and service are awesome too. We can’t stop thinking about our next fish fry at Tip Top!

A great little location for some delicious food and a good selection of drinks.
The service was freindly and very efficient.
The food was some of the best ever in madison with seasonal and local beers to choose from.
The atmosphere is quiet with lots of space for seating and a small parking lot in the back.

We had the pleasure of stopping here on a Saturday evening. It is very modest from the exterior, and the parking lot was small, but there was handicapped parking and extra parking on the street. The interior is lovely, with very tasteful lighting, wallpaper accents and simple seating. The tin ceiling was a treat and the other decor showed an appreciation for art deco with an eclectic vintage vibe. Well kept and clean, the wait staff was cheerful and busy, but attentive. Great background music had a nice jazzy feel, I found myself nodding to the beat as did the bartender. The menu contains some amusing wordplay, which was appreciated. We ordered “The Rooster” and split it between us. It was delicious and hit the spot, kind of an elevated BLT with egg. It came with a field green salad nicely dressed. The Summer Spritzer was very refreshing and light. They also offered a honey lavender lager, which sounded delicious but I was pleasantly full. Although we ate inside, there is also a fairly substantial patio area. This establishment is handicapped friendly with no stairs to navigate. Overall a wonderful dining experience with great service and a relaxing
ambiance. Highly recommend.

My favorite type of townie bar and restaurant! Great food at reasonable price. Salads come with all the sandwiches. Pitchers of beer at a low price. It was a bit dark in the restaurant making it difficult to see across the table.

A hidden gem! We love going to this restaurant. The food is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. Small little restaurant with patio seating (highly recommend when it’s nice out). The servings are a great size and the food is absolutely fantastic. We had the cheese curds as an appetizer and they were really good. We had two different burgers, Reuben, and mushroom melt with bacon. This place is dog friendly for those who are inclined to bring their four legged friends. Every time I’m in Madison, we usually make a stop here!

We ate here before a jazz show at North Street Cabaret.
Food was excellent. Service was friendly and fast and a great Wisconsin bar atmosphere. I had the Walleye and it was great. Flavorful with a light, crispy batter. My wife had their mushroom burger and really liked it as well. A few nice vegetarian options on the menu. A great option at a great price.

So we stumbled upon here based on the good reviews that I saw on Reddit. I’ve never been to Madison before and was passing through back to Chicago. We came here and were pleasantly surprised at how delicious the burgers were! I can honesty say this was one of the best burgers I have had. Big and juicy meat patty and big piece of cheese. Bun was nice and buttered.
If you’ve seen the movie The Menu, this is what I imagine the cheeseburger being like.
One of us got the veggie patty and also throughly enjoyed it.

Drinks 10/10 I got the apple cider and it tasted like juice. Liked the local selection of taps. Had spotted cow on tap.
Burger 11/10 would come here for this alone
Reuben sandwich 8/10 was good tasted cozy
Veggie patty burger 8/10 pretty delicious, needed some more sauce though
Cheese curds 10/10 only had cheese curds twice but these were nice plump and squishy
Fried pickles 5/10 average, little overdone
Sweet potato fries 3/10 were overdone for sure, probably get a side of cheese curds with my burger instead
Service 2/10 didn’t seem like we were welcomed or offered any help if we had questions. Gave them lots of thank yous and was left with blank stares. I’m not sure if it was the local customs but it was my first visit to this city and it was amis

I’m new in town and my parents were visiting so we decided to try a breakfast place. One breakfast joint nearby (I wont name them) oddly told us they had a 1.5 hr wait when no one was in front of us and we felt pretty un-welcomed. We were dressed in winter casual wear so I didn’t understand the problem other than maybe the color of our skin.
Luckily Tip Top Tavern was nearby and it was so inviting and had a “come as you are vibe” We had brunch and this place gets 5 stars for the service and atmosphere alone.
I recommend the biscuits gravy and the classic breakfast (don’t skip the potatoes). Self serve coffee was great too. Thank you Tip Top for making us feel welcomed!
