Thor The Guide Dog
Tip-Top is more than just a dairy bar! We loved our bacon cheeseburgers (added grilled onions, pickles, ketchup, mayo) on the fresh buns from the local Roer’s bakery. Also, they have our favorite style of french fries (lightly battered and salted). The ice cream treats include a variety of mouthwatering options! I enjoyed my cookie dough cyclone (like a blizzard or concrete mixer), my wife enjoyed her chocolate shake, and our dog Thor enjoyed a pup cup (and some chicken strips). Small indoor seating area and some outdoor seating available as well. They also had a covered concrete patio under construction when we visited for the first time on 6/21/25. Small parking lot attached with 10-20 spots available maybe.

Step back in time at the Tip Top Dairy Bar. Good burgers, really good fries; old fashioned customer service.

This is one the hole in the wall “gems”. It was recommended by a friend. The service was great, the food was great. The only drawback, is there were a lot of bees on their outside patio. They did take measures to trap them, but I am allergic, so I couldn’t stay out there.

A fun stop when driving up north to Alexandria. Good street parking on wide small town road. Fast service with the two windows. On my late July visit the gal at the counter was helpful in recommending me ways to get my chocolate Dole whip cone twisted when she could tell I was lost with the menu and what to order. Wasn’t rushing, but engaging. Loved the variety of folks milling around enjoying their treats outside in the hot summer. Character and charm and community. 10/10.

Im obsessed with the brownie bite sundae here! That’s the only thing I order whenever I stop here on my way to Alexandria from the cities. But they have alot on their menu from desserts to lunch food.

The meal baskets are really good. They’ll include substitutions instead of the usual fries. I would mostly recommend the ranch dip as they have improved it so it’s not too tangy but creamy in taste too. They also have cyclones which is pretty similar to Dairy Queen’s blizzards but completely different. I enjoy Crazy Monkey, Grasshopper, Cotton Candy, and some other flavors that other competitors don’t offer which gives customers a more unique experience.

Amazing! Must do it, the fries are literally the best I’ve ever had. Super crispy but not overdone, whatever they do, its super duper

The tip top is an iconic ice cream stop for small town America. Complete with a walk up window for ordering it’s a must in the summer. We’ve been going since I was a kid and I brought my toddler there this weekend! The excitement for ice cream, slushees and cyclones never goes away. Ages 2-80 we’re enjoying their afternoon amongst us. Friendly staff, delicious treats and great prices!

Good place to stop for ice cream on the way to/or from the cabin. Shakes and cyclones are good. If you want banana, ask for the real thing. Otherwise you will get banana flavored syrup.
