This was true. The outside tables at the side are well protected, and there’s plenty of room there. But we came not for the tables but for the barbecue. It was excellent.
We started with the Brisket Fiesta Potatoes, just to have something to start with. My wife exclaimed, “If I had known how good this was, I would have ordered this for my meal!” They were really delicious. I think they’re available on a weekly rotation or so, so we’re going to check to see if they’re available before we come again.
We each ordered the sampler, with different sides: : my onion rings were spectacular, the beans very good. Of the meats in the sampler, the brisket was wonderful, the pulled pork very very good, the ribs were not the baby back ribs I’m used to, but Saint Louis style, very meaty, though also fatty. Of the smoked chicken wings? Well I have two of the three left, maybe for lunch today, but they disappointed us a little bit.
The beer selection was very good, the popular standards as well as a large number of craft brews. In slightly warmer weather, there would have been nothing bad about that night, except it may be we didn’t need the appetizer once we saw how much was on the samplers.
We’re looking forward to going again, and again. And my friends want to go too, now.
So would I go back? ……. (Sorry gotta read entire review)
So why 3 stars? Well for one it’s odd for a bar that has beers on tap to not offer tastings, it’s always par for the course whether you’re a brewery, bar or pub. Like I get it people shouldn’t abuse it but this is how customers try new things. And If someone doesn’t like a beer they make take their time drinking it which means less sales. I know I normally have a beer or 2 with my meal but without being able to try one I chose not to get anything and we went somewhere after.
The shrimp basket wasn’t the sexiest looking nor great. It was adequate at best not something amazing.
Now on to why you’d come here, the BBQ.
The pork in my opinion was probably not freshly made today and had a lot of liquid to it . The chicken wings were overcooked, the onion rings were okay but weren’t great. The ribs were good but I wouldn’t be coming back for them as they were a bit overcooked, not a lot but a bit.
The best part of the visit was brisket, it tasted like it was made today had a great taste to it and the only reason I’d consider going back would be for the brisket. It was a lean cut and not fatty which is my personal preference.
The food was modestly priced and a good value, but would be an amazing value if it weren’t for what I mentioned.
I personally wouldn’t go back, I like to try new beers but also don’t wanna order a whole beer if it’s gonna be awful which doesn’t take much to figure that out. I’ve found some amazing beers I would have never bought if I didn’t try it first. While the brisket was really good, the rest of the food was just meh and as such I’d rather try somewhere else.
