I recommend the herb roasted chicken salad or the quiche both are delicious
FYI…..This establishment only accepts cash or check. No cards of any type. There is an ATM across the street if needed
We arrived early enough to beat the crowds that waited for tables shortly after we sat down at an outdoor table. I loved this small, charming cash-only cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating, a short walk from downtown.
Very friendly service with multiple staff servicing every table.
Everything was fresh and all the entrees at the nearby tables looked fabulous and makes me want to come back and try other items.
We ordered Raspberry Iced Tea and a regular Iced Tea. We enjoyed it with a Salad Platter with Curried Chicken Salad and a House-made Banana Muffin and a special of the day Grilled Chicken Salad Platter with Blue Cheese, Walnuts and Apples and a House-made Blueberry Muffin.
Everything was tasty and fresh with a large portion. The muffins were moist, but a reasonable size; more old-school than what you normally get nowadays. The baked treat was the perfect size to complement the salad, so we left feeling full, but not stuffed.
On our waitress’ recommendation, we shared a piece of the signature Banana Cake. The cake was moist and flavorful and the icing was perfect, but not too sweet.
The restroom was a treat, since it’s decorated excessively for the holidays and changes to celebrate each occasion. The whole cafe felt honey and welcoming.

When we arrived on a rainy Monday afternoon we found no tables available inside, so we waited because like others, we didn’t want to risk getting wet by sitting outside. However, we didn’t need to wait very long, and were soon seated at a table by the front window.
Everything is made in-house, and it definitely shows in the quality and taste of the food. We got the curry chicken sandwich and a spinach quiche. Both were top-notch! The chicken curry sandwich came with coleslaw which was also absolutely delicious!
They’ve been around for 28 years, and you can tell that they know what they’re doing when it comes to making delicious food that you will want to come back for.
Parking is challenging, so be prepared to walk about a block if you don’t get the coveted front spot.
Before we left, we shared our YouTube channel with one of the servers who loves dogs and said she would visit Basenji Adventures.
Now for my review…
I haven’t visited in awhile, but wanted a recent transplant to dine and see this place before moving back to Chicago. The food is ALWAYS delicious, the service is great and the decor charming and festive, especially during the holidays. The owners go all out, especially in the ladies Bathroom. IYKYK The cakes and muffins are the most flavorful I’ve had, as are the unique drinks. The minted lemonade with a splash of raspberry was nearly on every table, including ours. We both ordered the tea sandwiches with soup. My dining companion ordered the ham salad and egg salad with Gazpacho and a Blueberry Muffin…and I had the salmon salad and Tuna salad with Sweet Potato Soup with Orange Cranberry muffin… with fruit garnish… we both tried each others…EVERYTHING was delicious.
We were both full but decided to grab a slice of their Banana Cake to go, to eat later…Banana Cake with banana creamcheese frosting layered with fresh bananas. YUM! Their cakes are a little pricey, but for homemade, it was so worth it to treat ourselves.
Phillip, one of the two owners came to our table and we had a nice chat about Boca and how much has changed. Then he got back to work and I noticed him beckon to the Amazon driver upon walking in, to come to the back counter. He offered him a muffin and a drink. The young Amazon driver walked out with a big smile on his face. When a business owner cares about a delivery driver its so kind and heartwarming to see and of course inspires me to support this cafe EVEN MORE!!
Do yourself a favor and come in for lunch or Brunch, bring some friends. This place is charming and everything they serve is delicious. There is sometimes a wait for a table because its not a large place, but WELL WORTH the wait.
Don’t forget to check out the bathroom (holidays), especially if you have kids or are a Big Kid yourself. Its MAGICAL! ✨
P.S. Parking is a bit tricky, due to the small narrow parking lot. Better to street park.
