We walked in at 5:05pm, we seated ourselves with a party of 9. I get it a larger party.
We were told that because we were not members of the Bavarian, we could not be served alcohol because we were not members, even though we were willing to pay for it.
We do not place our order until almost 6pm. We ordered 3 cheddar cheese ball appetizers, we also placed our food order at that time. Almost 50 minutes to an hour went by before we got our cheeseballs.
We asked the waitress if we could just have our checks since our food was taking so long to come. We all paid before we got our food, our fault so I’m not putting that on Tim’s.
Almost 30 minutes later and asking multiple times asking we finally got our food about 7:20-7:30. Over 2 hours of waiting.
The Bavarian takes care of drinks and Tim’s takes care of the food. when we ordered our drinks we were told that we had to pay for them right then and there.
Upon leaving the restaurant my sister in law tried to leave with her water bottle, and the lady at the front, stamping everyone’s hand, an gave her an attitude about leaving with a water bottle she had paid for.
Oh and the most insulting thing, they made us pay full price for our meals that took over 2 hours from start to finish to get and consume.
This was once one of the best restaurants in Altoona. I had been going there since I was a young kid, and now I don’t plan on setting a toe back in there.
Terrible experience!
However, it was too cold in the building for my liking but given the proximity of the kitchen, it’s understandable. I don’t like that the tables are too small and close together. Can’t have a conversation without almost everyone hearing it.
But the food was alright.
I am not dining in again. But may consider take out. Maybe.
The dishes are more than enough to fill you or take some home!
The prices are good and they have unsweetened tea! ( Lipton ).
I had a steak salad big enough for two!
Let’s start off with talking about the massively sized portions and delicious food! I almost couldn’t finish the salad, it was fantastic…so I did . We had a large party, there was very little wait for the food, it was impressive. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. We felt no pressure to leave, even though we took up so much space. I will come back here for sure! Don’t underestimate this house on corner that that is a cafe.
This is a no frills restaurant in a repurposed house. It definitely has a neighborhood diner feel.
Staff was excellent too.
