Dining at Timpone’s restaurant offers a pleasant atmosphere with friendly service, which makes for an inviting experience. However, when it comes to the food, it falls short of expectations, especially considering the higher prices.
We started with the Pesto Chicken pizza, which was the highlight of the meal. It was well-executed with a flavorful pesto and tender chicken, making it a solid choice. Unfortunately, the Spinach Tagliatelle didn’t live up to the same standard. It lacked flavor and spice, leaving the dish feeling rather flat and unseasoned.
Dessert brought a bit of redemption with the Cherry-White Chocolate Cheesecake, which was a delicious combination of cherry & chocolate . However, the accompanying cherry sauce had a bitter aftertaste, which somewhat detracted from the sweetness of the dessert.
Overall, while the service and ambiance were commendable, the food didn’t justify the higher price point. Timpone’s shows potential, but there’s room for improvement in flavor and consistency.

The service was good, even understaffed, very friendly and very hard working. My complaint is not about that. My brother who was visiting from California and I came here to experience one last pizza from our childhood before Timpones closes its doors for good. Already pretty redundant of me to write this review as it is closing. The first pizza brought to me, a simple pepperoni did not appear anything like the pizza I remember from here…even one from 2 years ago. The pepperoni was small and curled up, not the classic flat pepperoni they’ve always used. Then my pizza barely had any cheese. It looked just like totinos frozen pizza. The spices that made this pizza unique just weren’t there. I asked them to make.me a new pizza that had cheese on it this time. I was brought out a new pizza with barely any more cheese. I gave up an ate it at this point. We’d already waited over an hour of first arriving at the restaurant on a Tuesday evening as we were told they weren’t seating anyone for another hour. That’s how much we were looking forward to a nostalgic experience. Other types of meals that came out for other diners looked appetizing and well made. I dont understand what happened with my pizza. Just a very disappointing last experience with this place. What the heck happened with the pizza?? The chef seemed capable by looking at other places brought out. Why did the ingredients change? Where was that unique flavor? And why for the love of God could my pizza not have cheese on it!?!?!

Consistently a gem of a restaurant located next to the UI campus and its Krannert theatre. House made everything. Delicious risotto, always some sort of fish choice, and house-made desserts. In the summer, the chef has a large rural garden and brings in fresh produce. Last night had risotto cakes with fresh morel mushrooms, house-made, burrata, and an incredible pork chop made with delicious fresh sour cherries harvested by the chef. The pizza there is very thin crust from a family recipe that’s been served in the community for 75 years. Desserts are also house made. The Keylime pie is the best ever. The carrot cake is also marvelous. Staff is thoughtful and attentive and pricing provides for quite a value. An Ebert thumbs up!

Family went in for pizza and everyone was pleased. I chose the traditional with sausage, pepperoni, garlic, spinach, goat cheese, pepperoncinis, spinach and balsamic glaze. I know it sounds like a lot, but it should be on the menu. Best pizza I have had in a long time! The old fashioned I had was not my style. Too much ice and cherry. Couldn’t even taste bourbon. Should have ordered a beer anyway to go with pizza. Food came quick and service was good.

This restaurant was recommended and it was our first time attending but we won’t be back. I took the servers recommendation on a sweet drink and got a cactus Martini that was truly awful. I didn’t drink it and it was so sour and bitter and the furthest thing from sweet. My husband ordered the funghi Pizza and he ate one piece and did not box it up to take it home. Our friends tried the pizza as well and it was not good. I had cheese ravioli that was average. Our server started out really well but then became more concerned with the four drunk golfers in the corner I assume because of a really good tip in her future. As a server I would have at least asked about my full drink that I never drank and I would have asked about the pizza that was untouched as well. We ordered bread which cost you money which is kind of strange for an Italian place. We just don’t need to go back. Super disappointing.

Absolutely great food. This is the best Italian food in Champaign Urbana that I have gone too. Far better than Napoli’s, biaggis, and more. The cost is a bit higher but it is worth it. The butternut squash ravioli and short rib gnocchi are amazing. The vibe is very dark and cozy, great for a nice date night.

Timpone’s for many students and staff from outside it looks quite old place. But it’s famous for unique and decent service. They have many Italian cuisine and few others too. Food is tasty and place is peaceful and pleasant. We liked the pizzas they serve. Service gets delayed as tables fill up. We made it by 6pm and finished with desserts by 8pm ♂️ otherwise food is good and ambiance too.

We called Timpone’s on Tuesday to ask for reservations that Friday for around 20 people for a short wedding ceremony and dinner. The manager was accommodating and said we may need to share the space but he was sure he could make it work, even with the short notice. The restaurant made adjustments to allow our group private space in the Tuscany room. We had two staff with us only and they were phenomenal and patient. We ended up with an amazing, romantic atmosphere for our small intimate wedding with our closest friends. Timpone’s served the food as they would with any table and the presentation, timing, quality, and portions were perfect. Many of our guests were blown away with the restaurant. Our staff were so helpful and on top of things. They were extra nice in letting us hang out a little later than they are normally open with smiles on their faces. Timpone’s isn’t a place that traditionally handles a wedding, but they handled ours like pros. We highly recommend them as the food and service are top notch.

I’ve always loved the food here. Service is always top notch. We usually get the bread (amazing and fluffy), Caeser salad, and then entrees. My mom had pasta and I had the vegan special. It was spectacular! The bread pudding was also quite delicious.

Simply the best restaurant in Champaign-Urbana. Whether you just want a perfect caeser salad with the best thin crust PIZZA ANYWHERE or you wish to try something originally put together for a culinary orgasm, it is all there. More casual downstairs at the bar or upstairs for the best dining experience in town. The best!
