Time Out Restaurant in Washburn is a hidden gem for breakfast on the Bayfield Peninsula. No matter if you’re coming from the east or west, all roads seem to pass through Washburn—so stopping here is easy and worthwhile. The restaurant itself is unpretentious but full of charm, with a cozy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. A big part of that welcoming vibe came from the wonderful waitress who took care of us—friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind.
The menu is surprisingly extensive, offering a wide range of classic and customizable breakfast options. Whether you’re in the mood for something hearty or light, there’s plenty to choose from. The portions are generous—borderline massive—and the prices are refreshingly affordable. It’s a perfect spot to fuel up before a day of exploring the area.

This is probably one of our favorite breakfast spots. This is one of the top five omelettes that I’ve had in the area. It’s very filling and it’s huge for the price that you pay for it, which is also very cheap and their coffee is good. Make sure to bring cash.

Went looking for a local breakfast spot while staying in the neighboring town of Herbster and came upon Time Out, which has a classic rural diner vibe. We were greeted as soon as we came in by a kind woman on the staff, and she told us we could sit at any open table. We picked a small table for two by a window and reviewed the menu while she brought us coffee. Every table who asks for coffee gets their own insulated carafe and bowl of sugar and creamer, quite nice since you don’t have to asks for refills and the place seems pretty busy….at least it was when we visited on a Wednesday morning. I ordered the ultimate hash with eggs over easy and rye toast. My husband ordered scrambled eggs with bacon and three pancakes, but they had an issue with one of the pancakes, so they substituted a piece of French toast. When we saw the food come out to our table we instantly knew we ordered too much. The portions are huge! Anyway, everything tasted great and we took our leftovers to go for an afternoon snack. This small diner is very generous…you definitely get your money’s worth and then some. Make sure you have cash or a check…they don’t take credits cards. I would come back again. Thanks!

Time Out, a Washburn staple, is your go to spot! If you want a bang for your buck, this is the spot, you get a ton of food for a little amount of money.

Dad got the omelet, wow was it huge but he said it was very good!

I got a pancake with strawberries and cream, could do without the cream but it was good!

Also got the Chicken Tenders because I had too, they were good! 7.4/10 on my scale.

Just a nice, chill spot here in Washburn, Wi!

Time Out Restaurant serves portions that are large enough to split. The hash browns were extra crispy and even more tasty with cheese and onions added. The eggs over easy were cooked perfectly and the biscuit was buttery delicious. Staff was very friendly.

This is a wonderful gem of a restaurant! We were staying in town for a few days and liked it so much we returned a second time before heading home.

If you want the classic diner breakfast/lunch experience Time Out is worth the stop. The food is reasonably priced and well executed.

It’s cash or check only so be prepared for that.

Finally a real restaurant with huge portions and an honest price. After a weekend in Minneapolis and paying too much for too little we escaped north to find peace and quiet and The Time Out Restaurant. I chose the sportsman breakfast. It came out hot and cooked perfectly. The silver dollar pancakes were at least 7” in diameter and there were three of them. Everything else was cooked as one would expect..PERFECT.
I don’t know if I would ever be back through this town but I would never pass this honest meal for an honest price.

Food was good, did it’s thing. If U like after bar diner this is a perfect place. Reminds me lots of my 3-4am food fun. If U have a preconceptions of fine dining U will be disappointed, BUT not with the food. Very well priced for what U get and taste. Average $8 per person w/o tip.

Nice small diner with a pretty good selection of breakfast and lunch/dinner options. Visited on a winter morning and we had the place to our selves. Good and helpful service. Food was exactly what I expected and tasted great.
