The bungalows were beautiful, the ambience stellar – tide pools, koi fish and waterfalls with the beach in the background as sunset. Just wow.
We ordered the the beet & candied lemon appetizer which was delicious.
I ordered the Hawaiian Catch and the lobster was the best I have had (and I have eaten at several top reviewed lobster restaurants in Maine with fresh Maine Lobster and this was BETTER). The purple potatoes so incredible also.
My partner had the Mahi Mahi absolutely loved it. My parents had the special – surf & turf. We all ate every bite because each dish was spectacular.
We were so full but weren’t going to pass up desert. We got the Ugi Custard and my parents got the pineapple cheesecake and donuts – again spectacular and we ate every bite. We left over full but it was SO GOOD.
The prices are high but you don’t get that atmosphere every day. Just do it – you wont regret it.

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of food for a place of such view at the resort-Grand Hyatt. The best seafood I’ve had an island hands down. Tried the dynamite crab cakes and the coconut scallops both cooked to perfection! The Hawaiian catch was really fresh and delicious! The lobster tail was better than ones from New England and CA area I’ve had in the past! Top notch dining experience. A bonus is the warm buttered toro roll served to every table-so freshly baked! Tidepools was part of our Kauai highlight.
Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi is my go to meal. And the Crispy Tofu and Vegetable Fritter is a home run for the vegetarians in the family!
Appetizer: Scallops 10/10
Mains:
– macadamia crusted mahi mahi: 9/10 – could’ve definitely used more acidity. Had to ask for a lemon!
– Hawaiian catch: 10/10
Drinks: 10/10
And they actually know how to cook steak! One of the few times I’ve requested Medium and actually got Medium, instead of Medium Well, or Well like every chain “steakhouse” I’ve visited. Would highly reccomend, especially for those with dietary issues similar to Celiacs.
Because our server, Joy made the whole dining experience enjoyable. She’s been here more than 20 years and still had a smile for us every time she visited the table, which was just often enough but not too often.
Because Jaime (and his trainee) did a great job with all the little things like water and clearing dishes.
Because the food was absolutely delicious. The coconut scallops were cooked to perfection, the lamb chops tender, juicy and very nicely seasoned. The Hawaiian seafood platter was perfect and the mahi mahi was also delicious. We topped it off with the molten chocolate lava cake with ice cream.
The host also did a great job, seating us at our reserved time.
Everything was flawless, bravo Tidepools, it’s hard to orchestrate everything so well, but you did it.
Did I mention Joy? What a delightful person.
Finally, the restaurant is beautiful with views of the ocean, koi pools all around with lots of colorful fish, open to the outside (but fully indoors too!), easy to get around and enough distance between tables to have a peaceful conversation.
