Reviews
Located behind Wyler Hotel, with a commanding view of Harris Creek, Tickler’s is an exceptional establishment for family get together or a romantic dinner.
The crabs are medium to large and are heavy. Have fun digging in!
The staff at tickler’s are awesome. They definitely got the extra mile to make sure that you have an outstanding experience.
Also be careful going there with your boat. They say it’s 4 to 6 feet at low tide but I docked at the furthest slip away mid tide and it was less than 3 feet so I was hitting ground.
The soup had pretty good flavor, and it had plenty of what was definitely real crab. I know because there were so many shell chunks in the soup, I had to test each bite with my tongue first. As for the hushpuppies, they were pretty good but I was a little surprised about the large chunks of corn and the dryness of the batter (they were very crumbly). It’s not necessarily a bad thing but something to be aware of when ordering. As for the Po’boy, it had pretty good flavor and I enjoyed it probably most.
My main issue with this place is the price for what you are getting. One reason I think may be because of how many staff there are working. There was literally one or two people per table working, plus whoever is in the kitchen. Overall the atmosphere is nice but pretty average food.
Our salad greens were in the verge of spoiling, leaving bitter tasting lettuce that just flip flops off your fork… the dressings were okay though, yet, over powered the essential part of a salad: the vegetable…
Sysco slop that comes in frozen and served as “Local.” After a stay here and seeing the truck arrive: avoid the fritters, chicken, shrimp tempura, chicken tenders, sweet potato fries, and duck… The ‘Smith Island Cake’ was obviously shipped, frozen, and then rethawed for service. Mine had a piece of mold on it, but I didn’t want to cause a fuss. The only thing local here is the fish; not including the menu’s “Salmon.”
Microwaved crab dip that was clearly broken before before being served (fat separating from ingredients)… days old cream of crab; which was only a half portion and an overbearing sherry wine flavor with crunchy vegetables that weren’t cooked long enough… canned crab meat for the sake of saving money and keeping it on the menu, yet, charging top dollar…
Avoid this place, go to other spots that are keen to keeping things fresh, local, and about their customers.
Our server, ‘Ashley’ seemed way in over her head. My kids and wife were very unpleased with our entire experience and we will not be coming back.
As someone with 20 years in the culinary world, you definitely understand the flaws and shortcuts taken by such chefs who don’t want to put love into what their serving… this restaurant is a perfect example of what NOT to serve or do.
If you’re hosting a wedding with these people… run…
Absolutely will be back in the warmer weather to check out the outdoor bars and docks.
