Tia Margarita, a family owned restaurant, established in 1963, serves classic northern Mexican fare in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Most recipes have remained constant throughout Tia Margarita’s history, such as the well known carne asada, while other dishes have evolved to appeal to new customers’ tastes. Known for outstanding fresh lime margaritas, patrons can enjoy them from the blender or on the rocks. The original horseshoe bar provides a full range of cocktails and a great bar scene. Tia Margarita welcomes new customers as most become regulars, returning again and again for everything from delicious homemade salsa and rellenos, to tamales and dynamite margaritas. Many of the staff has been there over 20 years.

I had such a great experience at Tia Margarita. The moment you walk in, you feel the warm, old-school charm—like a true neighborhood spot that’s been loved for generations. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and genuinely seems to care about making sure you’re taken care of.
The food is incredible. Everything tasted fresh and homemade, and you can tell the recipes have real history behind them. The margaritas are exactly what you want—smooth, strong, and perfectly balanced. My meal came out hot, flavorful, and beautifully seasoned. It’s the kind of comfort food that hits every time.

It was the best experience of my life, I absolutely loved the place and vibe , what an amazing team here , food was fantastic and the margaritas are delicious. Our server was so amazing he kept coming and entertaining us with jokes and made my husband laugh. Fast service and beautiful decor of the restaurant and table settings . Chips and salsa are so good too . The flan is out of the world .

I love Tia Margarita, the place is solid, the food has even improved over the years from good to GREAT! Always great service, great people who represent the restaurant with grace and warmth, professional and yet personable. Luis is a wonderful server and Jennifer is a wonderful host, everyone who works there are so nice. The margaritas always hit, I really enjoy and look forward to going to this treasured spot.

Went here on a whim on a Friday night…and it was kind of insane in a bad way lol. $15 for chips and guac?! Better be good enough to make me believe in god. Everything felt like cheap food, but at high end prices for some reason. I’m talking like Taco Bell “cheese” cheap. Super inattentive staff…I’m not sure how long it took, but it took a long time to bring back a bottle of modelo.

Over the past few year’s, Tia’s has become our favorite regular spot in SF. The staff knows us (and our very vocal dog Freddie Mercury…) and takes such good care of us. There is literally no other establishment here where we feel as welcome. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere warm and fun, and everyone we take here just loves it. Can’t wait to continue visiting for years to come.

You enter the premises and you see the big bar and a few tables only. But wait there are more tables in the back. The tables are quite crowded. We were seated in a comfortable area next to a wall but I could smell urine. I tried not to breath so heavily. By the way parking in this area is really bad especially during meal times.
The service and food are good. You get free chips and 2 types of, mild and hot, salsas prior to your meal. The portions are quite generous especially the burrito meal which has two big burritos. An advise to you: make sure your server hears you correctly when you order chicken anything. I ended up getting cheese enchiladas instead of chicken.

Tia Margarita is a must-visit! The margaritas are simply the best—perfectly balanced and refreshing. The authentic Mexican dishes are bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the vibrant atmosphere makes for a fantastic dining experience. We go almost every week and always look forward to it. Highly recommend!
