Visited Thunderhead Lodge for brunch with friends on January 24th. A thoroughly delightful experience in every respect. Cozy atmosphere by the fireplace, delicious food and drinks, and absolute top-notch service. Could not have asked for more. Highly recommend the fried goat cheese with Sriracha sauce in particular! The bartender came over personally to make sure my cocktail was acceptable. Gold Star, sir!!

What a gem! Grab a bite before or after getting on the Appalachian trails, it’s connected to the Lodge. It’s going to be a hit. Eat indoor or out. Music adds to an enjoyable ambiance Food is freshly made to order. Look at the mozzarella triangles. Hand breaded, not that frozen junk you fine at other places. Desserts made on premises. Staff are pleasant. Owners are lovely. My pictures didn’t do the food justice. Go try it yourself! It’s worth it.

The service was great. Food was ok, nothing worth going out of your way for. French onion soup had wrong cheese.
75$ without tip for: 2 sodas fish & chips and cheese steak with fries + French onion soup and seafood bisque is pricey

Saturday Brunch with Friends

We had a wonderful experience at Thunderhead Lodge a week before Christmas

It was a blustery winter day. We were warmly welcomed and seated near their cozy fireplace. Robbie and Jordon were most pleasant and accommodating.

The food was absolutely delicious from our drinks thru dessert. The farm to table homemade fare added to the rustic cozy atmosphere and experience. What a treat to sit back, relax, enjoy the company and conversation of friends, Christmas music in the background and most importantly incredible flavor to savor.

Thunderhead Lodge is truly a gem of a place. I would highly recommend your checking it out. It offers delectable food and so much more – year round! Will certainly be going back!

We absolutely love this place. The food is always top notch and made fresh. The staff is amazingly friendly and the atmosphere is hard to beat, being right up against the Appalachian trail. We actually discussed that we’ll be coming back multiple times this summer.

A very nice restaurant with great food and service. We got the brunch they have on Sunday and it was great all around. The prices weren’t bad either, and the place sits right next to the Appalachian Trail. The only problem was the heavy fog we had to go through to get there.

We stopped here on way home from Lehigh Valley Zoo. It was a great decision. Get the fried goat cheese. Cozy atmosphere with a warm, beautiful fireplace. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. Food was delicious! Couldn’t ask for more.

After an underwhelming experience during a holiday party last year, we decided to give Thunderhead Lodge another try for dinner when we heard they had prime rib back on the weekend menu. Since it was Sunday evening, we knew there was a chance it might be sold out—but we figured we’d give it a shot anyway. Unfortunately, the prime rib was indeed sold out (totally understandable), but we decided to stay, order something else, and try again for prime rib another weekend.

The appetizers arrived fairly quickly. We ordered the mozzarella wedges, that left a lot to be desired flavor wise (The breading can definitely use some more seasoning) And Brussel sprouts which had decent flavor and seasoning, but the serving we received was a little inconsistent between having crispy edges and being completely mushy (also they were served cooler, temperature wise than I would have expected. The entrées followed promptly. My fiancé’s pasta dish was hot, flavorful, and impressively portioned. My entrée, on the other hand, was a different story.

I ordered the filet, which was served with a (fine dining sized) portion of mashed potatoes, a vegetable medley, and a burgundy mushroom shallot sauce. Sadly, the potatoes were bland, stiff, dry, and cold, the vegetable portion was also barely room temperature. The burgundy mushroom shallot sauce was barely lukewarm at best and had the consistency of congealed and fatty chocolate rice pudding

Our server noticed right away that something wasn’t right and immediately sent the plate back to the kitchen—which I genuinely appreciated. The second plate came out quickly, and while the vegetables were warmer, the mashed potatoes were still inconsistent: only half the portion was slightly warm, likely from being plated under the vegetables, while the rest remained cool. I tried a bite of my steak and was disappointed in not only the lack of seasoning / flavor but the temperature of the filet was not only under cooked (came out Med Rare / closer to rare and i ordered Medium ) but at this point cold.

*I do understand that fillet can be difficult to get exact temperatures right sometimes because the steak is such a thick cut of meat. Also i realize that technically, I didn’t catch that it was undercooked the first time because I didn’t get a chance to try it yet, so the kitchen didn’t get an opportunity to fix it (which understandably, I cannot hold against them)

Shortly after i received my remade meal, someone who appeared to be the manager (later identified by our server as the owner) came over to ask if everything was okay. I explained that while the vegetables were a bit better, the potatoes were still not warm, and the steak was undercooked and now cold. I mentioned I’d just like to take it home at this point but thanked her for coming over to check on us.

Instead of apologizing, the owner condescendingly replied, “Well, I was back there while the mashed potatoes were being plated the second time, and I had a spoonful myself and thought they were warm… maybe we just don’t serve them as warm as you would like,” before walking away, saying nothing else. Both myself and my fiancé just stared at each other in disbelief that that is what came out of this woman’s mouth and how she approached the situation.

I’m far from someone who complains or sends food back, but when paying $40 for an entrée in an establishment that states “Our goal is to provide you with excellent quality food, drinks, and service – every time” I would hope for food that’s fairly portioned, fresh, and served hot. More importantly, I wouldn’t expect to be gaslit by the owner into thinking my expectations for quality or temperature were the problem, rather than the quality of the food i received .

This review is no reflection on the wait staff or bartender, who were extremely kind, attentive, and professional throughout our visit this evening. I feel bad that this experience reflects poorly due to something entirely out of their control. But after two disappointing visits in a row, I think it’s safe to say there won’t be a third.

Beautiful place ontop of Blue Mtn. It’s unique because it sits on the side of the Appalachian Trail. I came here excited but left very disappointed. Okay now for the review….long wait….make sure you get a reservation and call ahead, I saw people leaving upset at the entrance. 2nd part…I thought this was a place for HIKERS on the Appalachian Trail to visit…..why is it soooooooo expensive and over dressed up! There should have been a place to hang backpacks at least, not sitting outside under the overhanging roof…and gear is expensive!!! Hershey was cheaper at most places! I ordered a drink, it was 11$ and yet I think the berries I picked on this mountain will do more for me. So I asked for a strong long island…..nope….watered down!! 22$ for drinks that didn’t even make me feel relaxed, after hiking over 15miles! I wish i had gone somewhere else! The food was delicious at least and the server I had was friendly. Other then that it was a disappointment…you would think it should be catering to Hikers not the filthy rich! 80$ for a meal for 2!!!!! I feel now I need to warn other hikers of this place vs. telling them to check it out seriously….I recommend this place make a separate area for hikers (inside), a separate food menu for hikers, and a place to hang gear at when visiting….it’s not like I could just leave it in my car…hikers don’t have a lot of money to begin with, and they don’t like it when a place takes advantage of them either especially after a hard long trip. This works pretty well for pizza Sorento in Hershey FYI! A place for quick food and sodas, and a fancy side..
