They are a great place to visit for a sandwich while your car is getting worked on at Firestone next door.
They share a huge free parking lot with other businesses in the same strip.
Trey (also known in local folklore as “Trey Legend,” though scholars debate the origin) crafted my sandwich with what I can only describe as reckless confidence. We sparred verbally, as is our custom. Words were exchanged. Eyebrows were raised. The air crackled.
Then, as he wrapped my sub, I struck. “Did you remember the bacon, Trey? Because I don’t think you did.”
Reader, this man broke. He LAUGHED. He unraveled the sandwich like an archaeologist uncovering ancient ruins, unsure of his own memory. For one brief, shining moment, he doubted everything.
The bacon was there.
He was visibly relieved. I informed him I had made him second guess himself and that I was, in fact, reeling in the power of that.
Five stars for the sandwich.
Ten stars for the psychological warfare.
Infinity stars for Trey Legend.
There were a couple people ahead of me, and behind me but the line went quick. Staff was all smiles, and the meal was delicious. I got the California turkey sandwich with the brocoli cheese soup. 10/10 as always.
Great local Austin sandwich spot.
Even after I tipped her to compensate for the wasted bread, which I didn’t have to do, she just spun the screen around and walked away, but I yelled out “thank you, have a good day,” because I’m petty like that especially when it comes to my customer service. Meanwhile, another customer with kids arrived and was greeted warmly by a different employee, which made her attitude toward me stand out even more.
This isn’t the first time I’ve had this kind of experience at this location, last time a male employee had a similar attitude. I love Thunderclouds and my family does too, but this location’s customer service is very disappointing. I’ll be going to another store where the service is much better, even if it is further.
For food I had the New York Italian. The sandwich was pretty good. Bread was soft but just chewy enough. The meat was flavorful lettuce crisp. The whole nine yards. The thunder sauce really helped bring everything together. They have a selection of both Vickies and Lays chips.
The location is a bit dingy. Old linoleum, faded paint, etc. but it was clean, just in dire need of a facelift.
The people behind the counter were more than polite, so no issues there.
