Ordered:
Roast Duck with Stir Fried Noodles (No. 18)
BBQ 2 Kinds with Stir Fried Noodles (No.22) – picked roast duck and roast pork
The stir fried noodles – choice of stir fried rice noodles or crispy fried egg noodles- the latter was loaded with a generous amount of well cooked vegetables which still had a nice crunch in them. The sauce was tasty and not at all lumpy and there was enough of it to soak and soften the noodles.
The roast meat portions were acceptable – No. 18 – a piece of Maryland and some back pieces
– No. 22 – a piece of Maryland plus six pieces of roast pork
Both meats were tasty, succulent and flavoursome. The roast duck had red colouring added. The roast pork had a thin light crispy crackle.
Service again was matter a fact. Food served promptly.
Previous Visit:
Ordered:
Broken Rice with the Lot (No.96) – a chef told us that he comes here just for the broken rice.
Generous portion, thick piece of pork chop which was not dry, mildly marinated with faint lemongrass notes.
Stir fried crispy egg noodle combination with egg sauce (No.157) – good portion size but the sauce upon arrival was very thick and gluggy. As the sauce broke down and became more watery, there were still lumps of starch. Was immensely thirsty thereafter… (msg? Lots of it??)
Their service manner was a matter a fact. Order taken and off they went. Food delivered promptly despite being busy.
After 30 mins, my partner dish of stir fried beef came, and my noodle came with no roast duck.
I again asked the staff as by this time our stirfried veggies went cold, and I can’t just eat the noodle by itself, the staff reassured that roast duck would come anytime soon.
Another 15 mins passed, and I had to ask another staff who tried to avoid eye contact to start with and tried to brush me off when being asked. Finally the roast duck came after the noodle went cold to the point it stuck to the plate with its cold greasy oil.
The food taste alright, duck is a little too salty for my liking. MSG flavour is pretty strong. Ofc, I can’t rate the service as there was no service here I guess coz they’re busy always. But hmmm hard to say that I would come back to try the roast pork.
Portion is generous tho!
I ordered the medium BBQ pork and crispy pork, and while the taste was decent, I was really impressed by the generous portion sizes.
The fried rice and noodles were massive too, giving a great value, though the flavors were just average.
But let me tell you, the jasmine tea was an absolute delight! A perfect complement to the meal.
This is clearly a Chinese restaurant, if you like Chinese food come here.
Definitely an icon in the heart of St Albans worth visiting.
Every dish we order was packed full of flavour and cooked to perfection. We could not fault the service staff, they where attentive and quick we didn’t have to wait for anything. Outstanding we will be back and highly recommend Thuan phat. Thank you!!
Place is always always busy with people and staff are prompt at clearing away dirty dishes etc. Portion sizes are good and a verity of options on the menu.
Service is abrupt and zero smiles.
Overall, delicious food but bad wait time and service.
