Unbeknownst to me, my girlfriend and I had a kid-free, plan-free weekend so we took advantage of our free Saturday evening and made it a date night, referring back to the restaurant recommendation from earlier in the week.
Although about an hour away from us, we hopped in the car and made the trek. And, boy, was it worth it!
Upon pulling up, we noted the charming crib appeal with the cute, quaint bistro sets outfront. We were sat by a lovely hostess (whose name I didn’t snag) at our requested table outside, with a spectacular view of the historic downtown and the beautiful brick work of Gage Mansion across the street.
Our waitress, Avery, quickly greeted us and notified us of the in-season peach specials, and that we made it during happy hour- BONUS!
With a blackberry peach whiskey sour in front of me, a blueberry lemon drop martini in front of my girlfriend m, and a smile on both of our faces, we were served our appetizers of crab bisque and cocktail shrimp with tequila lime dipping sauce.
Having just been on a Carribean cruise in June and 8 days in Florida 2 weeks ago, we had our fair share of seafood and nothing, NOTHING, came close to both the bisque and the shrimp. The bisque was served at an appropriate, warm temperature with a subtle hint of crab in the smooth and creamy broth. Accompanied by just enough chunks of crab meat and the added texture of a few crackers, this soup was light yet hearty, and had me raving about it on the ride home.
The peeled, deveined, and tail off shrimp were perfectly chilled and paired very well with the light, refreshing, zesty tequila lime dipping sauce. Transparent and lacking viscosity, I was fearful the sauce would be lacking flavor but that was definitely not the case.
Entrees ordered after heard recommendations from our waitress, we settled on the 12oz NY Strip with garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli, and the traditional Alfredo with chicken.
Being raised in a rural community by a family of butchers, I have had many a steak that would knock your socks off, but never have I ever gone to a restaurant and had a steak come anywhere CLOSE to what I’m familiar with at home; until last evening. Cooked to the perfect, medium doneness with melted garlic chive butter pouring off the sides, I moaned with every bite. The edges of the steak were perfectly charred, enhancing the peppery flavor. The garlic potatoes complemented the garlic chive butter on the steak, tying the two together. And the seasoned, flavorful broccoli was tender enough to stick a fork into yet hard enough to still get a little crunch; a difficult feat to accomplish.
The chicken Alfredo was another 5 star dish, per my significant other. Only having a bite, I was ready to arm wrestle her for the rest of it!
Finishing the evening off with dessert cocktails, she had a chocolate martini, including the hazelnutty flavors of Frangelico, and I had a nuts and berries, mixed in a style different than my familiar, but delicious nonetheless!
Although one of the more expensive meals I’ve paid for, I have no qualms with paying for a meal as delicious and filling as what we had. Given it was a breezy, 80° evening on the shaded sidewalk and the service was incomparable, it was just the perfect evening with my perfect partner. Not having had a date night in months, maybe even a year, we were VERY pleased with our entire experience- food quality, service, atmosphere was all 5 stars. We will definitely be back again and will absolutely be recommending this little piece of heaven to all our friends and family! Thanks for having us!
Very clean and nice atmosphere.
The waitress took are drink order and brought them back and asked if we were ready to order. She never volunteered to let us know they had any specials and I had to ask her if they had any specials for the evening. I had order the special apple Pork loin my husband ordered the marinated pork loin off the menu. The couple that was with us ordered the Chicken Piccata and Scallops for their meals.
The restaurant was not busy at all and only had 2 other tables that were occupied, It seemed to take awhile to get are order.
We finally got are meals and all 4 meals were warm not HOT. My husband and I’s Pork loin on the ends were burnt (BLACK), his was dry, the Chicken Piccata was very tuff and the Scallops did not have much of a flavor. The fresh green beans still had the stem on them (I am talking the stem that had 3 green beans still together) you would think before serving them they would have cut it off the stem. Had to ask if we could have rolls. When we got them they had just came out of the oven and was hotter than are meals. Had to ask to get another coke as server never asked if I wanted another coke.
Received are bill and was charged $3.50 for each coke. NO FREE REFILLS. We were totally shocked we were charged $7.00 for 2 sodas. I have never gone to a restaurant and had to pay for each soda. Working in the restaurant for many years I know that there is a hugh profit on soda.
