Laid-back joint serving British classics, from black pudding to mushy peas, plus battered fish.

Sub par experience tonight for our take out. This is usually one of our go to spots for halibut and chips. Service always good and the messages on the bags addedd a nice personal touch.
This time, was not the case. Fries were either refried or heated, absolutely terrible from a fish and chips spot. Fish was soggy. Coleslaw, I don’t know what happened as they used to have the best coleslaw in Burlington, fresh, cold and green. This time was white, drench in sauce and very sweet. No messages on the bag (not an issue).
I am considering giving this a pass, as it may be one off but I would definitely not going to come back if its going to happen as this was not a good dinner for us.

Really disappointed with the tartar sauce at this fish and chips spot. Instead of fresh, house-made tartar, they give you these tiny, sealed packets that look like something from a cafeteria. For a place specializing in fish and chips, the sauce is a big part of the experience, and this just felt cheap and out of place.
The fish itself was alright, but the packaged tartar sauce took away from what could have been a much better meal.

I recently called in for a pickup order of a 2-piece haddock and chips. When placing the order, I mentioned that my previous meal had undercooked batter on the fish side, which left it slimy and inedible. I was told, “Sorry about that,” but unfortunately, when I got home with my new order, the exact same issue occurred—uncooked batter that made the fish unpleasant to eat.
This is disappointing, especially considering that this place used to be consistently good. On top of that, I was surprised to be charged extra for additional tartar sauce packets when the meal
itself already cost $37.00. For that price, I expect properly cooked food and better customer service.
I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as I’d really like to see the quality return to what it once was

I ordered the black pudding and chips, and it was one of the best versions I’ve had in a long time. The black pudding was cooked beautifully — crisp on the outside with a smooth, rich texture inside, and full of flavour without being overpowering. The chips were freshly made, hot, and had that perfect soft-inside, crisp-outside balance that’s hard to find.
The staff were welcoming and attentive, and the service moved quickly even though the place was busy. The shop itself has a warm, traditional feel, the kind of spot that immediately makes you think of classic British comfort food done right. Everything tasted fresh, well-prepared, and clearly made with care.
Overall, a really satisfying meal and a place I’d happily return to. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates proper chip-shop comfort food.

Huge portions at a good price. Crispy fish and chips are a must. Recommend the Haddock. They give a nice big fillet. Friendly staff and good service. The kitchen is pretty quick. Clean facility. The dining area is pretty neat and the decor is nice. Call ahead for a pick up order. Plenty of parking. The lot is difficult to navigate when exiting.

Made a last minute decision to get fish’n chips on Christmas Eve and a few of the Milton options were closed, so ventured over to Thisle for the first time.
First interesting thing was placing my order for pickup. I honestly though I was speaking to an AI bot. The experience was positive, but I assume English was not their first language and they had a slight robotic tone, so it threw me off when I met the guy in person, who was quite busy but still very courteous.
The food portions were adequate for the price, but more important was the taste was above average – and this is coming from my family that are Brits who love their fish n chips. So it looks like Thisle will be one of our new first choices.

I had been meaning to try The Thistle for a long time Because of its reputation for good fish and chips, eventually we visited ordered the two halibut and chips with mushy peas on one and a portion of gravy each plus soft drinks the halibut was fairly small, considering everything was well cooked and tasted fine but including a tip, the bill came to $80.
Atmosphere in the place is a little bit dull the decor a little bit dated however the waitresses were very pleasant, but the whole experience to be honest felt underwhelming for an $80 lunch we left feeling we completely overpaid for an underwhelming experience.

Like a lot of customers we have been coming here for many years – since 1988. Moved away from Burlington 22 years ago but still make the 1¼ hour drive from where we now live, to have our fish and chips at The Thistle, it’s well worth the drive! Why it beats so many other places is the quality of the fish, it’s excellent, always nice white meat no brown bits, with a light, crispy batter and freshly fried chips. What’s not to like?!!

It’s OK. The people are really nice, the fish is good (but not great – could be crispier!!) if somewhat standard fish and chip type stuff, but in my opinion way overpriced for what you get. The fries are merely okay, and the sides, such as mushy peas, too small or overpriced for the serving size.
