The decor of the restaurant is great, fantastic ambience in an intimate setting. Extensive wine list and delicious cocktails.
The food was definitely a highlight, fresh ingredients excellent flavor, cooked to perfection. We really enjoyed the beans with lobster, the chicken, and the leek tart. I would pass on the gnocchi.
The food is rather expensive for small portion sizes, but that’s everywhere in New York. Definitely recommend this for a date night, and also recommend trying once.
Congratulations for getting the accolade of being 100 best new York restaurants this week!
Excellent service. Our server was very gracious and informative. She suggested a pear cider.
We really liked some of the dishes. The brioche was outstanding! And the butter! I wanted to curl up inside of it and stay there forever.
The wild leek tart was very nice although the crust seemed a little tough to cut with the butter knife.
Carrots were good!
The red snapper and chicken were very well done.
I loved the brown butter hollandaise on the scallops although I thought it was a little strange to bury beautifully seared scallops only because it remoistens the top of the scallop. Still, it was a delicious dish.
I thought that the crepes souffle was an interesting idea but it didn’t actually work because the crepe shell weighs down the souffle filling and it seems more gooey than light. Great morels and sauce.
I didn’t see or taste the peppers on the tuna crudo although I did like contrast and flavor of the pickled melon.
Loved the crackers with the cheese and chanterelles!
The salad was beautiful and I loved the different textures from the buckwheat and the lentils sesame seeds. I love a busy salad! I thought that the dressing was unevenly distributed. Parts of the salad were bland and other parts of the salad were overly acidic. I was a little baffled by the white asparagus confit. I couldn’t really tell what it was. But that can be kind of interesting.
I didn’t like the panna cotta filled donut peach dessert which is weird because it’s two of my favorite things. It sounded like a good idea, but It looked sad when it hit the table. I don’t know if the panna cotta filing breaks down a bit in the face of the moist peach, but it wasn’t very nice and the peach just didn’t have any dazzle at all.
Also, the banquette seat are incredibly uncomfortable. I may be hyper aware of these things because I’ve been chair shopping recently but the flat hard wood is no good when you’re trying to enjoy a lovely meal.
The first dish was the oysters, which unfortunately I found the flavour of the oyster itself overwhelmed by the granita. We then moved on to the shrimp, which was DELICIOUS! Unfortunately though the plating was uneven and we ended up with one large shrimp and one absolutely tiny shrimp (and we could see everyone else dining around us had 2 large shrimp). The third dish was the white asparagus dish and I would have loved it if they served it with some of their fresh brioche that the chef spoke about. The next dish, Le Meunière, was probably the biggest disappointment of the night (and also the signature dish of the restaurant). The flavour of the dish was delicious but the way the dish was served was just disappointing, it would have been much better if the dish was served family style (as a whole fish) as opposed to a small portion of individual skate. The final dish was the sticky toffee pudding, which was my standout dish of the evening. Everything about this was just so tasty (I could eat a bowl of that salted calvados sauce), a 10/10 dish.
All in all I would give our dining experience for that evening a 3.5/5 but understand that this wasn’t their usual menu or dining service. There was a lot of great potential there though and we both agreed that we would revisit to try their standard menu.
The standout dish was by far the caramelized onion tart. This should be a must-order. The leeks in the gnocchi dish were also a treat.
Great service from start to finish and we liked the wines on the menu.
