An authentic Vietnamese gem in Chinatown.
This place delivers on every level—exceptional Vietnamese food, beautifully prepared and full of depth and flavor. The atmosphere feels genuinely authentic, thoughtfully designed, and very inviting. On top of that, the service is outstanding: warm, attentive, and professional without being overbearing. A must-visit if you’re looking for real Vietnamese cuisine in Los Angeles.
Service was very friendly and helpful. Seats were allocated on a first come, first serve basis so I was initially given a table for 4 and later asked to move to a more suitably sized table, which was more logical. Portions are generous here. I waddled out with food coma and a good intention of returning.
Normally, I’d assume if a restaurant has a long menu, that usually means they don’t specialize in any one meal, so the quality might be lacking. Therefore, the shorter the menu, the more they can perfect a meal, and this restaurant did not disappoint. Growing up in a Vietnamese community, this restaurant has better quality than the ones I’ve had growing up. The Bun Nem Nuong isn’t as popular probably because most people would choose Bun Thit Nuong (basically pork chops). Although both were good, I encourage you to try the Nem Nuong (basically Asian spam, except sweeter). The nuoc mam (fish sauce) that comes with it isn’t salty, so it is recommended you pour spoonfuls of it into the meal and mix it around to give the full flavor. It has plenty of veggies, so it is diluted and won’t give you high blood pressure.
Our server was super friendly and helpful in answering all of our questions. My coworkers (non-Asian) had a food allergy, so she was limited in food options, but the server was helpful in guiding what she could eat. Overall, the food quality lives up to its high rating. Service was awesome.
Summary:
– CLEANLINESS. Clean tables and utensils.
– COSTS. $ Affordable. $14-15 per meal at the time of this writing. Good amount for the price.
– CUSTOMER SERVICE. The staff was quick and friendly. They refilled water without us having to flag them down and checked in with us every couple of minutes, even with a full restaurant.
– FOOD QUALITY. Fresh and perfectly balanced. Like a home-cooked meal. Fish sauce wasn’t super salty. Veggies were clean and crispy.
– FOOD QUANTITY. Very large meals that fill up the bowl. You will be full.
– WAIT TIME. About 10-15 minutes to get seated during peak lunch times. About 20 minutes after ordering our food to receive all 5 party’s meals.
The pho was very hearty and had plenty of meat, tendon and tripe. The workers there are very kind and service was awesome. It’s a bit small inside but they have extra searing outside. Next time, I plan on trying the vermicelli salad with grilled pork
