This place doesn’t announce itself with volume — it draws you in with atmosphere. Low light, close tables, a kind of intentional intimacy that immediately signals: slow down, you’re not rushing this.

The space feels curated but not stiff. Brick, shadows, soft edges. Conversations stay close to the table, like secrets you’re allowed to overhear but not interrupt. It’s the kind of place where even ordering feels deliberate — you actually want to think about what you’re drinking.

Cocktails are the heartbeat here. Balanced, expressive, quietly bold. Not sweet for applause, not complicated for ego. Each one feels like someone cared deeply before letting it leave the bar. You take a sip, pause, take another — not because you’re impressed, but because your brain wants to figure it out.

Food plays a supporting role in the best way. Small plates meant for sharing, drifting, tasting. Nothing dominates. Everything contributes.

Thick as Thieves isn’t loud fun or easy comfort. It’s mood. Intention. A night that doesn’t escalate — it deepens. And that makes it memorable in a way that sneaks up on you later, when you suddenly want to go back without quite knowing why.

Lacks food options so eat before you go.Had a small charcuterie board, expensive for what you get.
Cocktails were amazing! Service was good. Ambiance was dark and moody, loved it! Music too loud for the kind of setting this is. Great service.

Been here three times and it is such a cool atmosphere. Love the dimly lit and cozy ambience. The decorating is phenomenal and the seats are all comfortable. Drink menu has many options and the drinks overall all good. The biggest issue for me has been the service all three times, with three different servers. The last time being the worst. We got one drink and our server came to check on us a few minutes after we received them but then we never saw her again. After 30 minutes we found someone to just get our check. This was extremely disappointing as this was supposed to be a fun night out and we ended up leaving after an hour. Seriously lacking in service in my opinion.

If you’re in downtown Boise and want an unforgettable drink, Thick as Thieves is the place. Every cocktail feels like a work of art—unique, smooth, and full of flavor. The hidden entrance and moody vibe make it even more fun. A+

A great hidden spot with some fun and funky cocktails (as well as all the classics). The vibes are great and service is always friendly and informative. The best speakeasy in Boise. Definitely recommend making a reservation tho.

This was our first time visiting a speakeasy and it was such a lovely experience. The atmosphere was warm and laid back while still feeling elegant and elevated. The drinks were unique and delicious. We also loved the small details that made it memorable, especially the telephone and the secret entrance which added a fun touch to the night.

I’ve been here a couple of times. My friends I’ve gone to Thick as Thieves have really enjoyed it, while I’ve been underwhelmed.

I’ve tried several drinks but I haven’t found them nearly as impressive as their appearance. But the bigger disappoint I’ve experienced is the lack of customer service. The last time I went in the server had mentioned quite a few times that she was tired. It didn’t make me feel like I was a valued guest.

I love a good speakeasy concept, but the check‑in gimmick has to be well executed. Pick up the phone, dial a number, enter through the secret door, it sounds fun, except their phone wasn’t working. Not just for us, but for two other groups standing there with us. After several minutes of trying, I finally knocked on the door just to get someone’s attention.

We were ignored for quite a while, and when the phone finally connected, we were let in 15 minutes after our reservation. Instead of a simple apology or even a “Hey, thanks for your patience,” the hostess immediately scolded us. She told us not to knock, said they “normally kick people out” for that, and acted like she was doing us a favor by letting us stay. I explained the phone wasn’t working, but she didn’t seem interested.

I don’t mind a place trying to create an exclusive vibe, but exclusivity doesn’t require rudeness. When the first interaction feels condescending, it’s hard to enjoy anything that comes after.
