I was in the area on business. A friend of mine recommended this place. The atmosphere was clean, cool and contemporary. The staff were warm, friendly and welcoming. They have reasonably priced lunch specials with large portions. They even put hot sauce in the bag. They did however forget to put the collard greens in my bag which was very disappointing. They smothered fried chicken was decent. The Mac and cheese was ok, but not great. The potato salad tasted bland with no paprika which was kind of shocking. The yams were absolutely delicious. Considering the fact that first impressions are lasting impressions, I will be reluctant to return. It could have been an isolated incident or perhaps their best cook called out that day. The atmosphere seems very busy so I am sure you may or may not have a pleasant dining experience.

I was in the Bridgeport area and decided to stop for Sunday Brunch. I went online and found this place close by. The atmosphere was really nice and cute, nicely decorated and cozy. The waitress was very sweet, and the bartender was adorable. The food was good. they didn’t have much available from the menu, which sucked, but it was definitely worth the try. The fish was good, the wings were good, the cornbread was good, the mac and cheese was good, the collard greens and potatoe salad were not that good. but it wasn’t that bad. The drinks were amazing, strong, and good. That rum punch was one of the best I’ve had in CT. The taste and the right amount of rum, bartender-Milk, hooked it up . I would definitely go back and check out other items from the menu.Ooh and the DJ. had me jamming.

This soul food spot was the perfect dinner I didn’t know I wanted or needed. The service provided by the staff was phenomenal. Made me feel special like I was family and they were hosting. The ambiance was tranquil and soothing. Make sure you grab the booth with the blue seats. Had a tequila mixed drink which was a lil on the strong side (just the way I like it). I ordered the cat fish dinner and my friend order fried chicken dinner with loaded fries as an appetizer. Everything from the succulent fish to the savory yams and the perfect black eyed peas. Everything was phenomenal and finger licking. Great place, great service, excellent food. Altogether came up to 60$. Would I come here again, hell yea. Thanks for having us.

We were in town attending my sister’s fashion show downtown. Went on Google Maps to find something delicious in the area for food, and based on the ratings decided to try thelma’s. Their food was damn delicious! Everything we got, there were four of us was Damn Delicious lol. The only complaint my mom had was there was no tartar sauce for the fish but it was still delicious. Everything was seasoned and and cooked right. We got Mac and cheese, yams, potato salad, and rice with black eyed peas, all we recommend!
For Meats we got the fried fish, pulled pork, and smothered pork chops. The pork chops melted in my mouth and we’re awesome as hell. No disappointment here

OMG, I had an amazing time at this restaurant on Saturday the 3rd of January 2026 (the DJ was fire!) Fried lobster tail paired with shrinp over waffles was amazing! Then when the bill came. I was even futher amazed. The prices was so reasonable & inexpensive for what I ordered. I actually asked the waitress if she forgot to add something to the bill. Highly recommend this spot.

My wife and I recently visited Thelma’s while in the Bridgeport, CT area for the holiday weekend. We left happy and satisfied customers and look forward to returning if we are back in town.
The wait staff were friendly and attentive, the food was served fresh and hot. Note: you have to request the cornbread, it was the best I’ve tasted and I’ve eaten at soul food places across the country to support Black owned establishments.
We came during the Saturday brunch and were pleasantly surprised at the cost for both of our meals when we received the bill.
I had the whiting, collard greens and mac and cheese, unfortunately they didn’t have Haddock, black eye peas or candy yams.
My wife ordered the chicken, cabbage and collards.
The portions were good size, well seasoned and excellent value for the money we were full and had no room for dessert. What made the experience even more memorable was the live DJ playing music from the different era’s to create a chill adult vibe where you felt relaxed and like you were among friends. At times I didn’t know if I should get up and dance or keep eating.
The only challenge I could see depending on what day and time you visit is parking, fortunately we found a metered space around the corner and because it was a Saturday we didn’t have to pay another bonus.
I strongly recommend a visit to Thelma’s if you are in the area and looking for great food, good atmosphere at an affordable price.

Food wasn’t fresh or had any flavor. First and last time trying. I called the restaurant before leaving this review hoping for a better experience the guy on the phone was very respectful and let me share my feedback. Only reason one day I would consider this place.

Food was good but didn’t appreciate being approached numerous times about my bill while not finish..they act as if I wasn’t going to pay. Then the bartender acted as if I wasn’t going to pay my bill…. Awful! I sat in the back by the bar, not at the front door..my coat and purse were in the seat next to me. Why was it assumed that I was skipping out? The bartender said that people have walked out..why did that relate to me? Yea, I’m good…. I try with our own places but when they treat you like the other sides, stay HOME and keep your money in your pocket! VERY DISAPPOINTED…….FM!

At first I was a lil bothered because noone was at the front. So we weren’t sure if we were to seat ourselves or what. Then Jennifer saved the day! She introduced herself (bartender) to us sat us at a table. We ordered drinks from her but had to order food from our waitress. No sure if this how it typically goes…it was a lil weird. We then met one of the owners she was just as sweet and welcoming. Jennifer is very knowledgeable about the menu and told us their most popular items. The rum punch was definitely tasty!! We ordered whiting, fried lobster tail n shrimp, cabbage, candied yams, lamb chops, fried chicken plain and flavored, chopped BBQ and collard greens!!! Everything was amazing!! Perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The consistency of the yams was different for me but a great different…very tasty, light n fluffy! I will be back…we all will!! I have to try the oxtails!!! Restaurant is very clean, bright and roomy! Great wall for pics!!! The bar is located in the back, perfectly placed! The food came in a timely manner hot and fresh! Employees are so friendly and helpful!! Great establishment and I will be back for the live band!!! Overall amazing experience!!!
