Following in John Woods footsteps the first settlers of Hazelwood were of Scottish descent and settled what was known as Scotch Bottom. We want to honor that original tradition, but also recognize the rich history and cultural diversity that exists in Hazelwood today. The Woods House is where people from all walks of life, local and from other parts of Pittsburgh come to hang out, eat and have fun. Good food that samples eats and drinks found in traditional Scottish pubs as well as our Pittsburgh delicacies and food trucks will also be featured.

This place is amazing! When we first entered we were greeted by the bartender Stephanie. She was very welcoming and friendly. As we sat at the bar waiting for our table she went over the history of the home and its original owner John Woods. Then she gave us a menu to look over and asked us if we had any questions. She was the first impression of the Woods House and she nailed it! I had the fish pie, my wife had the Guinness pot roast and mac and they were both excellent. We also had an order of scotch egg and they were excellent as well. The food, staff and atmosphere were amazing. The dinner was also very reasonable compared to other restaurants. I cannot say it enough, you need to try this place. It is not only a great restaurant but an awesome experience. We will be back!!!

Finally had the opportunity to dine at the Woods House on a recent Friday evening. Glad to have had reservations, as those who didn’t were turned away. The novelty of this place is its age, of course. Our meals were very good, accompanied by a nitro poured Guinness . My only critique is that the table directly in front of the gas lit fireplace, which oddly cycles off and on, is located directly in front of the door, which is not ideal. Perhaps you’ll choose to dine on the renovated second floor, but it doesn’t have the same feel as the stone-walled ground floor. Very cool.

A group of us went here to celebrate a birthday and it was a fantastic experience. We sat in the basement area by the bar, really dope atmosphere. Service was good, drinks were really good, maybe could’ve been a bit stronger but they were tasty. The scotch broth was a hit, delicious. Same with the tomato soup and potato soup. The pot roast mac, mash and bangers, fish sandwich and chicken sandwich were all really good as well. I can’t wait to go back here, even if it’s just to pick up some fish sandwiches. Good job, folks!

Tried the Scotch eggs at The Woods House and let’s just say… they were everything I hoped for and more. Firm on the outside, tender on the inside, and so satisfying I almost needed a cigarette afterwards. The sausage wrapping had just the right amount of spice, the egg was cooked perfectly, and the dipping sauce tied it all together in a way that felt downright indecent.
The pub itself is cozy, historic, and full of charm — the kind of place you could lose track of time in (and maybe your inhibitions after a couple cocktails). Friendly staff, strong drinks, and food that knows how to hit all the right spots.

Being of Scottish blood, but never having been to Scotland, my daughter took me on a family/birthday/ history weekend with our first stop at Woods House Historic Pub. We had a wonderful meal of Scottish eggs and Bangers and Mash. That meal is now my granddaughter’s all time favorite food! We were given a wonderful tour of the house and the history behind it. The tour was a special treat, upon request from a historical curator to owner, to experience the well kept and loved historical home/pub. Thank you, Woods House!!

This historical building is easy to get to and perfectly hidden in Hazelwood on a back street. The atmosphere is laid back and cozy. The staff members were open and friendly. Somebody checked in on every table. We had the absolute best waitress. She was fun and engaging and very helpful. The inside is very rustic and has a log cabin homey vibe. It was so nice Saturday we ate outside under the awnings. This pub is adorable, the food and drinks are delicious and reasonably priced. Everything is well portioned and don’t leave without trying a dessert. It’s so wonderful, what they have done there. I hope it inspires other people to revitalize other sections of the city in a positive way.

This was an absolutely brilliant accident finding this place. The fish and chips were fresh and hot. The bun and tartare were special! I took the bread pudding to go and it was thoughtfully packed with the ice cream separate. It too was delicious! You must check this restaurant out!

One of the oldest buildings in Pittsburgh and is full of history! The building is very unique and the inside has two different areas. There is the lower old fashioned Scottish pub design and the upstairs is a more modern seating area. Every employee was very polite and friendly. The service was great. Food was very good. Would highly recommend the goat cheese toast with tomato jam if you are at all a fan of goat cheese. The tomato jam is very full of flavor and absolutely delicious. Fish and chips were also cooked very well. Every drink we ordered off the menu was very well made and all tasted great.
All in all it is a very unique venue that is serving great food and doing it very well!
