My husband and I wanted something new for my birthday dinner so we decided to try the Wooden Shoe since we heard how great it was. We had the sauerkraut balls to start and they were magnificent. We shared the Cod and the Ribeye…Mac and cheese and the mashed potatoes. Everything was excellent. Best meal we’ve had since moving to the area. Finished our meal with the locally made cheesecake. Delicious. We will be back. New changes are happening in a couple of weeks. Excited to see what they are!

Met up with a buddy and had the Reuben burger, fries, fried pickles and sauerkraut balls.

Fried pickles are lightly breaded so the pickle flavor really pops through! The sauerkraut balls with their dipping sauce are ADDICTIVE and the burger was cooked perfectly!

Along with the awesome food, the staff are super friendly and very attentive. The atmosphere is great and as a big guy I appreciate the extremely solid construction of all their seating.

Will be back with my wife very soon!

Tied this for the first time tonight. I felt horrible for the servers. There were two, and a very busy restaurant. We waited 30 minutes to get drinks, that’s not an exaggeration. This wasn’t the servers fault, they were literally running trying to keep up. I gave 3 stars because they were trying there best!

Food was fine, nothing earth shattering or bad. Just fine. Fair prices.

The management needs to do something. You cannot operate a restaurant long term like this successfully. They are lucky the staff they have don’t just walk out.

If the servers see this, well done. Y’all did the best you could. If the management sees this, you’re gonna end up closed if you don’t get more staff.

Stopped for a solo dinner at this spot, seemingly in the middle of nowhere—Ohio edition. No parking lot in sight, but plenty of open street parking on a sleepy Wednesday evening. That part worked.

Walked in and was greeted with the warmth of a malfunctioning chatbot. The bartender and one server looked like I had just interrupted their final round of “who can care less.” Not ideal. Thankfully, Jacqueline—who ended up serving me—brought some actual human warmth to the table. Appreciate that.

Tried their so-called “signature” Wooden Shoe Fried Chicken. Five pieces, small salad, and some fries. The salad felt like it had survived a time loop (yesterday’s, at best), and parts of the chicken were dry enough to qualify as future Mars rations. Taste? Almost none. Maybe the flavor got lost in transmission.

If you’re not a local, skip it. Honestly, a gas station chicken leg and a cold beer from the mini fridge might be a more honest—and satisfying—experience.

After the original owner sold, and the new owner remodeled the first time and being a longtime customer of many many years. The chicken was not near as good. Knowing who the original cook was, I knew they changed the recipe on the chicken. We didn’t go back until probably three months ago with our friends. Because our friend who knew about the recipe said they changed it again and it was good. And we did and we were pleasantly surprised and it was very good. So about three weeks ago or four we decided to go back out to the shoe they remodeled again. Remodel job is excellent great seating nice job. However the chicken was not so good and the french fries are awful. The french fries was something to look forward to at the shoe. The french fry cutter broke and they went out and bought another one. The fries are not as slim as the originals. I recommended to the server to pass along. They need to take the cutter and have it custom done like the original owner did many years ago because it also broke. But he was smart enough to go out and get another cutter made because he too screwed up the first time and had lots of complaints. So he went to the extra mile had new cutter made back in business. Fact, I’m not planning on going back ever again. Unless I find out, they fix the problem. The signature on the old shoe was a french fries, and the fried chicken and that is why so many people kept going back for so many years Lee Thompson.

Great place to visit, a lot of history with this restaurant and it’s beautiful bar. We had the fried chicken and it was delicious

New owners and a much needed remodel to this tavern. The interior was new but still contains the history of the old place, including several authentic and tasty Wooden Shoe beers (14 total beers on tap). I had the build a burger, since there was a whole menu dedicated to it, chose the brisket burger, and was impressed, one of the best burgers I have had. Service was great as well.

Service is horrible . The managers wife the hostess is more concerned to meet numbers for her servers instead of making sure her customers are actually getting service. I come from the east coast and the service here would be rated worse than minus 10 if I had the option . The food is OK I won’t brag about it .very inconsistent but they have a great selection of bourbon . Nothing special in the bar area as no specials and no friendly bartender . Jessica the server and Jackie are the only knowledgeable people in there. It’s OK if you want quick and local but service needs a lot of work

So tonight was my first time at The wooden shoe. A friend had told me great things about it so we decided to go tonight. There is no parking lot but there’s plenty of street parking which is all right. We go up to the front porch stairs to the entrance and the foundation is creaky and the wood is warped pretty badly, definitely needs to be replaced.

When you first walk in there’s a really nice bar area and we was immediately greeted so it has a very friendly atmosphere in the front of the establishment. Mind you this is a Wednesday night so it’s not very busy besides just having locals and we waited there for at least 7 minutes before getting a drink order.

We decided to order off of their September specialty menu which at first glance looked very refreshing. I ordered a Waldorf salad with blackened chicken, the blackened chicken was moist and seasoned very nicely but the Waldorf salad was a thick mayonnaise that left a heaviness on the tongue.

I had also ordered the French onion soup which was a bit too salty for my liking. We had also ordered the pork belly which flavor is amazing but the fat needs to be crispy. The coleslaw that they had with the pork belly was the best thing we ate.

My friend had their own creation of chicken cordon bleu with a fatty oil sauce “sorry I cannot remember what the sauce is actually called”. My friend was very disappointed. Chicken was not seasoned but moist. We were honestly trying to figure out what the sauce was supposed to taste like and could not figure it out.

Our waitress and her helper were very nice nothing but smiles and was very attentive to us, definitely friendliness was an A+.

I had ordered food to go for my family and my son’s chicken tenders were not seasoned at all and husbands Alfredo was just a plain cream sauce with no additional seasonings,or cheese. Side of broccoli tasted like they just set the broccoli in a boiling pot of water for a minute and threw it in the container. No salt, no butter, not even a smidge of pepper. It was off the kids menu but even kids have taste buds.

Restaurants like this is why people think the Midwest can’t handle flavor or spice. Please understand that corrective criticism can help and save establishment especially when their family owned and I hope they see this knowing where work needs to be done.
