The site on which The Windlass sits has been central to Lake Hopatcong’s hospitality and entertainment industry since the 1800’s. Today, guests visit our airy dining room outfitted with a boat shaped bar, semi-open kitchen, and private party area – all overlooking beautiful Lake Hopatcong. During warmer weather, guests can dine al fresco under our waterfront pavilion or simply have a few drinks on our dockside gliders or covered porch overlooking it all. We welcome both visitors and devoted customers alike to spend some time at our beautiful location while enjoying one of area’s best food and beverage.

We love it at The Windlass! Although it’s doesn’t have the atmosphere other restaurants in the lake have, we love the food, the people and the drinks. My personal favorites are the pizza, Chicken Parmesan with vodka sauce and the Berry Cosmo. We love Nancy and Frank, at the bar, and rarely sit at a table. We love coming here to change up our dining experience and highly recommend you considering the experience! It’s great off season and even better in season! Enjoy!

The location was what first drew me and my family here—the beautiful lakefront view is absolutely stunning. Dining outdoors was a highlight of our visit. We booked a brunch reservation online, which was incredibly easy, and we were seated right away. There’s also plenty of parking, which made everything even more convenient.
Despite the restaurant being quite busy both inside and outside (there was a private event happening indoors), the service was still excellent. We felt well taken care of the entire time.
When the food arrived, everything tasted wonderful and was clearly well prepared.

Had a wonderful dinner here with my family to celebrate a birthday. Every dish we ordered was delicious and the service was exceptional. A big shoutout to our server that night, who I unfortunately did not get the name of. She was very accommodating of our dietary restrictions and brought our birthday cake to the table with candles. Everyone was attentive and kind, making the evening special.

Absolutely the best and most consistent restaurant in the area. The ambiance is warm and welcoming offering a wonderful lake view. The service is always incredibly attentive. The food is masterful, creative; yet approachable. Offering something for the most discrimination palate. Solid wine list to boot. A BEAUTIFUL Restaurant which my family and I consider an area treasure!

3rd time coming here and it’s great every time. The atmosphere, the food, the drinks and the service are great! Steak night on Monday’s are amazing! So much good quality food 2 glasses of wine and 2 salads! We will definitely be back!

First let’s talk location: beautiful lakefront view! Dining outdoors was the best! Booked a reservation online and they accommodated us when we were running a bit late. The view is absolutely amazing! Lots of parking!
Service was also good. Ryan was our waiter and did an awesome job making sure we were okay throughout the whole dining experience. Our food did take a bit long to come out but it was worth the wait!
Calamari and mussels came out quick and both were absolutely delicious. Calamari was perfectly fried and they gave both chipotle and marinara sauce. The chipotle sauce was yummy! I only tried the sauce from the mussels but it was so good!
Next were the entrees. I ordered the shrimp scampi and it was by far one of the best I have had. It was so flavorful. Hubby let me try his pork chop and it was juicy! Everyone said the food was delicious.
Dessert was just what we needed to end the evening. Had the lava cake and Reese’s cake at the waiter’s suggestions and he did not disappoint.
Drinks were good too but the food was the highlight as well as the views.

I have been eyeing this place ever since I went to the restaurant next door.
This is a wonderful spot. You can dine-in inside or outside. There is also an area to lounge and sit that views the lake. I also like the fact there boats to rent attached to the place.
The food was great. The service was good. Love the house drink they have. I would definitely would return and highly recommend who wants to eat at a restaurant next to the lake.

We had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding at The Windlass and couldn’t have been happier with our experience. We were having a Christmas wedding and the Windlass was decorated so nicely for the holidays! It fit the vibe perfectly! Donna helped us plan our dinner every step of the way, promptly helping us with any questions we had. The waitstaff was excellent, food was delicious, and the lakefront location was gorgeous! We highly recommend the Windlass for any dinner party you may be having or even just a night out. We’ve also eaten at the restaurant on a normal night and had a great experience as well!
