My fiance and I had mixed emotions about Kathy’s Pasta. We had chosen this spot for our anniversary because of the menu and pictures we had seen on our Google search. It was not at all what we were expecting, and the menu is completely different. We came in a little before 5pm. It was quiet, elegant, and nearly empty. The atmosphere was that of a fine dining restaurant. The waiter was absolutely amazing. He was attentive, nice, calm, and professional. The first 30 minutes or so was wonderful. The salad, breadsticks, and truffle fries were delicious and fitting of the atmosphere. After the first 30 minutes, the place became crowded, loud, and uncomfortable. The wood chairs also became unbearable within an hour. We waited for over an hour and a half for our entres. Between the loud, overstimulating environment and the painful chairs, we decided to take our food to go. We asked the waiter to just have the kitchen put our food in to go boxes when it was ready. The food was still warm when we got home, but it was not worth the money or the wait. The meat was decent, but the pasta was bland, soggy garbage. That’s exactly where it ended up, too. It felt like a huge waste to throw out half of the meal that cost us $75, but we couldn’t force ourselves to eat it. Had I known that this place was 2 different restaurants with 1 kitchen, I probably would have passed on it to begin with. The kitchen is so busy because it is the centrally located kitchen for Savour and Wild Iris (also known as Kathy’s Pasta). Even with the restaurant being nearly empty when we arrived, it took 1.5 hours to get food, and it wasn’t even that good. We cook much better pasta at home.

Me and my wife live an hour north in the Ozarks and after hearing nothing but wonderful things about the Kathy’s Pasta we road tripped down to check it out. It was 100% worth the drive!!
Being a chef with 15 years in the food service industry, a side business canning pasta sauce, salsas and a spice blend company, I am a little bit hard to please deep down, when I eat out due to most places serving dishes with no flavor, over cooked, poor quality ingredients and proteins not sliced properly when they are sliced as well as preferring a clean fresh smelling environment.
The music was very mood fitting for the time of the day and atmosphere, the sounds from the kitchen were upbeat and professional. The dining room and restrooms were all fresh and clean including the ceiling vents which being a chef by trade I can’t help but notice.

Kathy’s Pasta nailed every aspect of our experience today leaving nothing to be desired. Service and meal prep was very fast and on point. Granted we came in at 3:00pm and it was not very busy yet but the quality of the food delivered to our table would be well worth an extended wait time had we come in during a rush. The menu is a good proper variety for the restaurant, not too much and overloaded with items that would be hard to keep up with and prepare fresh to plate but not too little to where a customer on the picky side would have trouble deciding on something that suits them or their mood.

Our server was Blake, he was very upbeat, informative, professional and courteous. Blake touched on everything you would expect from a server in perfect rhythm and timing.

We had Spinach Dip & Focaccia for our appetizer which was unbelievably creamy, fresh, heated perfectly and did not settle as we snacked on our salad and phenomenal soup of the day. My wife had the Grilled Chicken Breast entree with a Chicken Garlic Capellini for her main dish pasta and I had the Mardi Gras Pasta
Sautéed shrimp, andouille sausage, peppers and onions with penne and spicy marinara that I ordered a little on the spicier side.

Everything was straight up flavor town and prepared on point!! Servings were all well portioned and the richness I would expect from Italian cuisine.

I would highly recommend Kathy’s Pasta, it was absolutely well worth the drive and there will be leftovers I will take home and most definitely eat which is rare for me.
I would recommend this establishment for anything from a quick light bite, casual dinner, date night or to bring a beer party of folks to for a celebration. Will absolutely return!!
A++++

This was our third visit since our first about 6 months ago and I’m consolidating them into this single review.

Kathy’s is a sit down restaurant of about 16 tables broken up by low walls, pillars and level changes to make for a more intimate setting. Other than that, the restaurant is a plain, generic place without much charm. As there is no background music, the kitchen and wait staff can be heard going about their work unless the conversations of other patrons are louder.

She had the Low Fat Garden Pasta, Chicken Garlic Capellini, and on this last visit, the Shrimp and Scallops. She characterized the food as good but bland. I had the Baked Florentine, a spicy goulash (special non menu dish), and on this last visit, the Cajun Chicken Fettuccine. Each of my meals was good but lacking something. That something for us is in the making of the pasta. Kathy’s is cooked perfectly but lacks flavor. A completely bland Alfredo sauce doesn’t help.

The service during each of our visits was very good by friendly staff. Iced tea and hot, soft bread sticks arrived immediately after our drink orders and the food came out in little time piping hot. A side salad accompanied the meals.

We haven’t tried their pizza or steaks and may be back to do that.

Food was ok…. til we opened the thing the parmesan cheese was in….. lots of rust! So much we noticed it was falling directly into the cheese. When we showed the waitress, no reaction. She went to go talk to a manager, apparently there wasn’t one there so all she could do was give us 25% off and a HALF order if the food we ordered. Just not worth it! You couldn’t pay me to go back
I give the atmosphere 3 stars, because it is a nice looking place. Comfortable atmosphere. Just the rust, the amount of it is the issue for real, and no manager there….

Great main dishes. Wife had the Chicken Garlic Capellini, I had the Baked Angel Hair. Bother were half orders. My side was the Tomato Basil Soup which look looked like a paste or thick sauce…it tasted good and was good for the bread sticks. Wife’s salad was a spring mix only.

Food is medicore at best. We had chicken fettuccine, spicy Cajun chicken fettuccine, eggplant parmesan and small pepperoni pizza. Portions are normal size. Short staffed. Waited 30 minutes to order, only one other couple in the restaurant. We were there at 4 pm.

Service was absolutely horrible, (4$ per drink!!! Just order water at that point!) waitress kept telling customers “sorry for the wait!” When we waited, 2.5 HOURS!! No refund, respect and a slap in the face with “have a good night!” Like no? They also doubled in prices, 36$ at most if not more for fish and some steak dishes. Just go to an actual steakhouse or Flat Creek on Aldrich St, never again

This place is a hidden gem of Bolivar! If you are going through 100% stop and eat here. Staff was amazing and had suggestions that were perfect. If they have the Italian Wedding Soup definitely get that.

Sadly they have removed some of the best parts of the menu. No more 1/2 orders (being able to have two types of meals was a huge bonus and our favorite part of trying new stuff) and no tortellini?? It was always incredible and we ate it a lot.

My husband and myself have eaten here at least 6 times. Every single time the food has been great (only place in town this has happened every time), and service was great. We’re so happy to find a local place that rivals any place in Kansas City that we came from. Keep up the great work!! Great for a single diner up to a dozen family members. Awesome ‘old time music’ 50-60’s? That you just don’t hear anymore that adds to the atmosphere.
