We are a small town diner bringing back home cooked offerings and the lost are of hospitality. You will receive a warm welcome and an enthusiastic farewell. It actually smells like grandma is cooking in the kitchen. From our home made gravy’s and corn meal biscuits, to the fresh cornbread that goes with all lunch/dinner items, our food is just a bit different. It’s just the extra little love and bacon grease in our opinion. Stop in and offer us a chance to make you and yours feel at home.

Fantastic, delicious, excellent. I could go on and on but you get the idea. We was on our way to Cumberland Falls and stopped off here for lunch and so glad we did.
I had the Jam burger and it was great nothing beats a homemade burger on a homemade bun except maybe bacon and oh yeah blackberry jam!! The Mrs tried the Salmon patties they were good the sweet cornbread and pinto beans were good too. My sister had the smoked chicken salad she said it was fantastic and my brother in law had the plain Jane burger deluxe!! All in all everyone was satisfied with our choices!!

Oh my goodness!!!!

Let’s start with how cute the inside of this place is !!! The tables are covered in such cute fabric !! It’s definitely a vibe !!!!
Then let’s talk about that service !!! They are welcoming , kind and genuinely happy you have choose to eat with them !!! The young lady was quick and helpful !! She knew what she was doing and did it well !!! The young man seemed newer but so polite !!! He checked on us several times !!! They made sure we had everything we needed and kept making sure !!! The service was top notch !!! The owner was just as welcoming and friendly !! He chatted with us and made our visit even better !!!
Now the food ….. oh my goodness !!!! First off we didn’t have enough time to try everything on the menu we wanted !!!
Just reading the menu you know your in for some good food!!! It’s a unique menu for sure !!!
Our kids got pancakes and French toast and loved them !!! But we had soup beans , biscuits and gravy , fries bologna , spicy messy, fried potatoes stack, burger, apple butter tenderloin sandwich mashed potatoes!!!!!!!! Let me tell you it was all amazing not just okay but so darn good !!!!
We visited two days in a row because we just loved everything so much !!!! We weren’t disappointed!!!
Definitely a favorite spot for our Burnside trips !!! We will for sure already be planning our next menu item to try !!!

Also the have to go banana pudding and Oreo made up to take to go !!! Delicious !!!! There also was cute little item for sale that I’m not sure any other details of but it added to the charm of the whole visit !!!

Charles and his staff are running an amazing family restaurant!!! Trust me you want to eat here !!!

This place is AMAZING!! We are from Pennsylvania visiting with family in KY, and made it a point to visit here. The food was absolutely delicious, service was amazing, our waitress checked on us often, always making sure everyone had coffee. The foods we tried were the tenderloin/apple butter meal and the barbeque omelet….both were the best ever. Also the chocolate gravy with homemade bread….ah, so, so good! They had strawberry cream cheese cookies, and because they didn’t have enough for our whole group, they actually made more for us to take with us! Amazing service! The owner puts his heart into everything he does, and you can truly feel at home here! Ten star review for us! ⭐⭐

Had a great lunch at the Whippoorwill Diner: smoked pulled pork taco salad, a special of kielbasa sliders with potatoes and soup beans. They smoke their own meat on premise, and the pork was incredibly flavorful and tender. The kielbasa was a generous slider portion and the soup beans were down-home good. Prices are very reasonable, and the service was fast and friendly. Can’t wait to return!

This family-owned and operated diner is a hole in the wall worth a look. Situated back off of 27 on the southern side of Somerset, it is easy to miss. We stopped in for breakfast. I had the stacked cornbread with fried bologna and Shelli and a tenderloin biscuit with onion fried potatoes.

I never would have thought to put gravy and fried egg on top of sweet cornbread but the hard seared fried bologna made it work. It made for a great breakfast. The tenderloin was a little thicker than we would have liked but it was tasty. The potatoes, though onion fried, were a little bland.

Overall it was a great dining experience with an eclectic atmosphere. The prices were typical for a diner. We would would recommend you give this place a try.

We’ve tried to eat at this lovely little diner several times and finally got our schedules straight and did so today. Tucked out of the way in the flea market in Burnside on the east end of Lake Cumberland, (across the street from the Reno’s and Gutheries) the Whipoorwill was worth waiting for.

Classic diner decor (from the mismatched chairs and tables to the dinner ware) and live plants on each table took me back to my grandma’s table. And it was as clean as grandma’s!! The food, while made of the same ingredients grandma use to serve was elevated. My spouse’s “build your own omelet ” was choc full of sausage and jalapeños with eggs cooked to perfection — it was excellent and served with fried potatoes. My sausage gravy and biscuits came on hot, fluffy biscuits with just a hint of crunch to the outsides. The accompanying sausage patties had a bit of spice to them (not too much) and tasted homemade. Once again transporting me back to my grandmas’s table.

Our service was fantastic, quick delivery of our food and very attentive service during our meal. Make time to visit this wonderful little gem— you won’t be disappointed!

HOLY $HIT. Excuse my language. But this is the best little diner we have had! The waiters were so kind. You order first and sit down (there is PLENTY of seating) or sit down and then order whatever you prefer.

We loved it so much we came twice on our small two day trip. The food. Oh my GOD. Absolutely delicious, fresh and both times it came out so quickly even for our big group!

We have tried a lot!
Soup beans 10/10
Chocolate Gravy and biscuit 10/10
Biscuits and Gravy 10/10

In town visiting from Louisville and had heard so much about Whippoorwill! It was so wonderful and decadent! I had the Old Timers breakfast and the sausage and gravy was just perfect. My son got the make your own omelet and potato cakes which everyone at the table was jealous of! We will definitely be back. This little place is such a treasure. Wish I had it back home!

This place is phenomenal!
Love the service! Seriously it is top notch!
Love the non standard menu!
The care and passion that goes into every single plate is unmatched..

Had salmon patties with side of cornbread & beans.. and let’s not forget the homemade tartar sauce … AND homemade pepper relish for the beans…

If that plate was sitting on top your head, your tongue would beat your brains out to get to it..

Go let Charles fix you a plate of goodness!
