Classic midwestern hidden gem. The ambience is low key and casual and the food exceeds expectations. The chef has a great palate and makes really, really good food. This makes it maybe one of three restaurants in the Champaign area that I would recommend people to (including Caprae Restaurant and Kofusion).

Absolutely fantastic creative food and such friendly staff! Had an enjoyable evening eating at the bar, sat next to a charming elderly person who eats there at least a couple of times a week because it’s so great!

OK an update 1/20/25… we went here for our first date, and now we are engaged! Thank you Wheelhouse! Friendly place with some romantic spice 🙂

8/25 Another update, we came for brunch on Sunday and it was fantastic! This place is just consistently outstanding. The grain bowl and the blueberry hazelnut pancakes were both terrific.

We heard a lot of good things about this restaurant but it certainly did not live up to the hype. It was actually startling how bad the food was. I got Blackened Shrimp Alfredo and the sauce was flavorless while the noodles were severely overcooked to the point that they were inedible. They replaced that entree with an awkward cheeseburger that was fine, but the two patty’s were very small, I’m pretty sure they just gave me two kids burgers instead of the normal burger patty. We also got a Korean chicken sandwich that was over breaded and dried out. I’d say it was at least 60% breading. And everything else, from the meatloaf to the cheese curds, was passable at best, with most everything being at least a little overcooked. In terms of service, everyone had an air of annoyance that we were there. It wasn’t near closing time, but the staff were just generally unenthusiastic and our specific waitress was quite inattentive. I asked for a cup of ice and waited 13 minutes before deciding to go to the bar and ask for my own. It was a very lackluster experience with extremely disappointing food. Do yourself a favor and drive the 15 minutes to Champaign. It’s worth it to avoid this dumpster fire if a restaurant.

Traveling with friends and stopped in for dinner. We were all pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. I had a horseshoe with the beer cheese sauce. It also had cheese curds sprinkled on it. Nice touch!

The food and sauces were made in house and I can appreciate the effort, but the taste of things just weren’t my preference. There was a rubber smell in the restaurant but that was not factored into the review. Prices seemed a little high for what you get but overall I would recommend trying the restaurant out.

Quaint small town little bar with big city food. Wagyu beef, duck breast, fried cheese curds, fresh cut “world’s best” French fries, local grown greens and meat.

We were looking for something different between Champaign and Danville. The reviews were good so we gave it a try. We were not disappointed! Excellent steaks, burgers and soups. Blend that with a cute atmosphere and good service and we’ll be back

The food is great and so is the service. The pork chop is well-done and I love the orzo pasta a lot! One thing that we’re just a bit disappointed is that the bread of the burger is a bit cold. Other than that the meal is perfect.

We were driving down I74 and needed lunch. Found this place and were not disappointed. We all had burgers with fries. They tasted great. We got some of the dustings on the fries (parmesan and the salt and vinegar) both were good. If you like parmesan, you get plenty of it. The salt and vinegar was a little more subtle. Had the chocolate cake and pumpkin pie creme brulle. Both quite tasty as well. Will go back when passing through St Joseph.

My friends and I decided to check this place out for the first time in the spirit of Champaign restaurant week. We were so impressed with the quality of the food here. I had pan seared shrimp soufflé as appetizer, duck breast as entree and peanut butter tiramisu as dessert. Gotta tell you the duck breast was amazing. Half of my friends also ordered duck breast and all of them were very happy with it so I could say the food quality is very consistent. The tiramisu was okay but my husband’s bread pudding was to die for. the only downside was we had to wait a little long for the food. But perfection takes time and it was totally worth the wait. I will definitely come back for more duck breast and bread pudding!
