Did they change the chef, I reckon?
First, avoid their beef at all costs. 50 bucks for this (shown in fig 1)? Full of chips with dry brisket. As far as the meat-to-chips ratio… it is insane. Furthermore, I ordered medium well, but the brisket is dry and super salty with an overcooked coat. It could burn my taste buds.
Other than that, the lamp is used to be very crispy at the rim with a juicy inside.
The waiting time when I was there drives me crazy, 20 mins at a minimum. I could tell the seats are quite empty.
However, the server is well-trained and cool. The cocktail is decent. Not worth spending 100 bucks here anymore as far as I am concerned with their food.
From the moment we arrived, the service was top-notch. The hostess with short hair (unfortunately I didn’t catch her name) was warm and welcoming, and Mason, our server, was absolutely wonderful. I was there with my kids, and right away they offered high chairs and brought water without us even having to ask. Mason kindly let us know that the food might take a little while since everything is freshly made to order, which we really appreciated. It helped set our expectations and made the wait feel totally reasonable (especially since we ordered steaks!).
The food itself was excellent. The beetroot salad and crab starter were beautiful and full of flavor. Our mains took a bit of time, as expected, but they were well worth the wait.
They also gave crayons to my little one, which made a big difference in keeping him happy. Mason even took the time to chat with us, making the whole experience feel personal and memorable.
I truly hope more people start sharing their positive experiences here, because this restaurant, from food to service, really deserves the recognition. Don’t let a few negative reviews deter you. We had an awesome time.
The West Table did not disappoint. I had the quail and brussels sprout appetizer, the beet and goat cheese salad, the pork chops, and in my mind, I had the crème brûlée, but I actually didn’t have enough space to fit that in, so I didn’t actually try it.
I actually liked it all so much that I asked to ChatGPT “ are there any restaurants like West Table in Denver?”
If I had ordered the same meal in Denver, it would’ve been half the size and twice the cost. They say that everything is bigger in Texas, but I’m telling you that the portion size here was huge for this type of restaurant. I could barely eat it all. It was crazy. And crazy delicious. I think that the prices were quite reasonable for what they were offering. I don’t know if you’ve ever cooked quail, beet salad and pork chops from scratch but 20 minutes to wait is really not that big of a deal. Everything came out with perfect timing steaming hot. It probably would’ve taken me like an hour and a half to try to cook all those things plus I would’ve had to cook them so that in itself would be problematic IMO.
They also really very graciously accommodated my requests for gluten-free and if there were certain dishes that would be challenging to accommodate… since they make it from scratch they were willing to try to “improv” the dish or they offered a better suggestion which I appreciated.
As others have said, the restaurant is loud. It’s not exactly an intimate quiet setting. But whatevs.
My only regrets were:
– Not having enough room for the crème brûlée in my stomach
-Not having enough money to try all of the nonalcoholic mocktails
– not drinking alcohol because I really would’ve liked to try the unemployed astronaut
I’m not saying it was cheap. I spent $100 on just me. I’m not sure how I’m gonna know how I’m gonna justify that as a business expense. Probably gonna tell my boss that it was my birthday present.
The only thing I think that West Table could do better would be offering “à la cart service” – meaning- can you please wheel me out to my car in a cart after eating all that food?
Service was a bit slow due to how busy they were, but our server more than made up for it. She was incredibly personable and made the experience enjoyable.
As for the food, we started with the goat cheese croquettes, which were absolutely amazing! Unfortunately, my entrée—the roasted chicken—was disappointing. It was dry and just had an odd flavor, almost overly salty so I ended up not eating much of it, which felt like a big waste considering the price. However, the meal ended on a high note with a fantastic crème brûlée, just as delicious as our server described.
Overall, I’d definitely return but would opt for a different entrée next time. Also to note from what I understand the menu does change weekly since it’s a scratch kitchen.
