Was expecting better from a popular fine dining restaurant in Purcellville, Virginia.
Had dinner with two other couples. The waiter was not well versed on the wine menu, couldn’t recommend one on the menu, but my wife saw a New Zealand white and ordered it and it was a winner.
The waiter we had was experienced (so he said) but rarely made eye contact with any of us during the meal. We finally gave up trying to get his attention and just asked another server from another table for water refills.
My wife ordered the meatloaf dinner, and the menu clearly stated it would be served with a sauce. When it came to the table without any sauce she asked the server about the sauce and he knew nothing about it and didn’t try to find out.
Look, this restaurant is having some managerial issues right now. The food is not being checked in the kitchen, not once did a manager check in with us. Service was slow and untrained on the wine and menu items. It feels like they just don’t care.
Can’t find a reason to recommend the West End Wine Bar in Purcellville, Virginia.
Find another place they hire people that care about what they do. They don’t care here.

We had an absolutely fabulous experience here, and it was worth every mile of the trip from the city. From the moment we sat down, Lanie made the night unforgettable. She was the best server ever; so kind, thoughtful, attentive, and genuinely wonderful. Every step of service was handled perfectly, and you could tell she truly cared about our experience. The food was just as impressive: the burger was juicy and full of flavor, and the mushroom ravioli was rich, comforting, and completely delicious. The wine pairing was spot-on and elevated the entire meal. As someone who used to wait tables at a fancy French restaurant, I don’t say this lightlly, this was top-tier service done right. Lanie made us feel welcomed, relaxed, and taken care of, and she turned a great meal into a truly special night. We’ll absolutely be back, mostly because of her.

It’s a very interesting place. Looks like they changed this residency-ish house into a restaurant. Super cool and unique. My favorite dishes were the crispy short rib appetizer and the Southern Shrimp n grits. Highly recommended this two.

The Crispy Iberico Ribs were the best! Good food, I enjoyed it very much. Also got the Ribs Bolognese and was very satisfied with that. Beautiful view too.

We did get a NY steak that was overdone, but they kindly remade it for us. The cocktails could be a little more varied, many seemed geared towards the sweet side. Overall really enjoyed it!

Visited the downstairs pub for happy hour and enjoyed the variety of available food and drink! I ordered the mussels in white wine sauce which was delicious. I was impressed by the size of the “small” portion! It was very quiet on a Wednesday night which was the perfect setting to catch up with my friend. I enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and am looking forward to returning to investigate the wine bar and full menu!

Husband and I made reservations Saturday (9/30) for date night. We arrived early, but we’re sat right away. Our server was very friendly, but they definitely were understandstaffed (she mentioned herself earlier). We had to wait a bit between dinner and dessert. I enjoyed the sangria, it was huge. The food was REALLY good. Very homey and comforting. My husband had the veal special and I had the confit chicken. For desserts, we enjoyed tiramisu and creme brulee. It was a quiet and quaint dinner. We enjoyed ourselves.

I want to clarify that I am **no longer affiliated with The West End Wine Bar & Pub in Purcellville, Virginia**. I formally resigned my role as Executive Chef on **December 23, 2025** and my resignation took effect immediately.

After serious and ongoing operational and workplace issues, I concluded that I could not continue in the role while upholding the standards of professionalism and hospitality that I expect from myself and those I work with. I appreciate the support from guests, colleagues, and partners during my tenure, and I’m grateful for the relationships and experience gained.

Moving forward, I will not be involved with any menu items, promotions, or decisions at The West End. Any references to “Chef Raaj” or “Siraaj A. Madyun” on The West End’s website, social media, or marketing materials are unauthorized and should be removed.

We’ve been dining at West End a couple of times a year for many years, but unfortunately, it seems they’ve lost their way.

For context, we were a party of three. Our total check was $276. We each had a drink, shared an appetizer, each ordered an entrée, and shared a dessert. Service was noticeably slow. Our extra side of Brussels sprouts came out after we had nearly finished our entrees — and they were undercooked and inedible.

We politely asked the waiter to take the Brussels sprouts back since they arrived so late and weren’t properly cooked, but they were still left on the bill. To make matters worse, all three of our meats were ordered medium and came out well done.

For the price point and our history of positive experiences here, this was an extremely disappointing visit.

The building is a quaint old home that has been wonderfully transformed into a great little restaurant. The service was pleasant, friendly, without being overbearing. We had the traditional breakfast and chicken and waffles. The eggs were perfect, the bacon crisp, the sourdough toast had just enough butter and the potato wedges were very well done. The waffles were sweet and fluffy, the chicken, lightly battered and tastefully offset with the maple sicracha syrup. The greens on the side were an unexpected side dish, that provided a great complimentary flavor to a very satisfying brunch.

We’ve been to the West End one other time on a Friday evening and had a good meal but meh service…never got my 2nd drink.
The food was the lure to return tonight.
We made a reservation.
We showed up on time.
We were seated promptly.
We were asked our water preference and chose tap.
And that is where our meal ended.
TWENTY FIVE minutes later we hadn’t even gotten that tap water we asked for let alone the attention of a server to take our order.
We did leave.
The hostess asked why on our way out.
We told her.
She said “Okay”
Have you never heard of service recovery?
We went to Magnolia’s where we were promptly greeted, seated and served.
