I finally got to go here. Many reviews are wrong, the building is worn and shows it’s age (1847 still serving) that’s expected if you want character. The service is good not 5 stars, but friendly attentive and fast. Great selection, I had the German Ribs, yum. We also tried the delicious schnitzel. Good beer and wine selections.

We hosted our annual extended family Christmas party with about 60 people (adults and kids) in the basement pool hall at the Village Tavern, and it was perfect. The space worked wonderfully as a private event venue for a large group, and several relatives even drove up early to shop around the area, making it a great day trip.
Everyone enjoyed playing pool and watching games and movies on the big screens, which added even more fun to the day.
We set up a few tables for food and kids’ crafts, and worked with the owners to create a reasonably priced meal package. Appetizers included salad, chips and salsa, and the most crave-able cheese curds I’ve ever had. Dinner was served family-style with German sausages, roasted chicken, German potato salad, and sauerkraut. We also had our own private bar for drinks.
Highly recommend the Village Tavern for your next event—and for supporting a great local business.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. We were a group of 4 and stopped for a late dinner, around 8:00pm. Got seated right away. Food was out fast and hot and was very good.

We had a fantastic lunch at the Village Tavern! It is Illinois oldest continuously operating restaurant. The food was great and the atmosphere was even better. We got onion rings and fried shrimp! If you’re in the area, make sure you stop by.

This place is the absolute best. Grant is a fantastic server – he was friendly, attentive, and went out of his way to make we sure that we had the best time. We loved the music and vibe. Highly recommend the Village Tavern!

Great place for an evening out. Sat in the bar area – was quiet – able to have a conversation with ease. Food was great. If they have prime rib – get it. Reasonable prices for food and drinks. I’ll be back!

Food is average to decent. Ordered a burger medium rare but came out well. It’s pretty easy to overshoot temp especially if kitchen staff was light. Only fries are the pre seasoned coated fries. Fairly typical bar food. Wish the mayo was a good quality mayo instead of a heavy duty generic miracle whip type dressing. Beers that were pouring foamy were served in libby shaker glasses with over an inch of head leaving customers with really short pours. Most of the beers I tried tasted were fresh and enjoyable. That being said it’s an amazing spot with amazing history and great people. Small tweaks to the food could really elevate without much cost differential.

My friends and I were doing some sightseeing and shopping in Long Grove. We looked up The Village Tavern as a local place for lunch and we were really pleased. I took a number of pictures of the 1893 Grandfather’s clock that was at the Chicago World’s Fair.
This is the oldest bar in Illinois and has operated since 1847. There is a lot of history to be explored in this building.
The food was good and prices ranged depending on what you ordered.
The service was excellent!
The Village Tavern in Long Grove is typically open from 11:30 AM to 12:00 AM on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. On Fridays and Saturdays, they are open until 2:00 AM. They are closed on Tuesdays. Note that some days may have adjusted hours for events like St. Patrick’s Day

We usually enjoy eating here, those that had the ribs were very good. We ordered the Beef Stroganoff special… it was not what Stroganoff should be… it was 2 pieces of beef roast with noodles and brown gravy. Stroganoff is supposed to have a cream cheese like sauce and flavor to it. The gravy was bland.
Still like coming here & will again but disappointed in this “special” dish.

I’ve been here many times with my great pyrenees. I love the fact that there’s outside seating for all the festivals and extremely dog friendly.
Their menu offers traditional American fare like burgers grilled cheese, tuna sandwiches and pulled pork. Everything here is priced fairly and extremely delicious for casual bar food and grill items.
During festival days like strawberry fest and apple fest they offer food and drink specials to match the vibes.
I love the non fussy vibes and Id describe the menu items as comfort pub food.
